HK has died - any hidden/secret fuses?

My HK system (2005 MCSa) has stopped producing sound. The headunit appears to be alive, i.e. it lights up, all the buttons work, the MFSW buttons control the headunit, but there is no sound coming from the speakers.

I was wondering if there is a separate fuse(s) for the HK amp, or possibly some other thing I might check prior to returning to the dealer?

Thanks in advance for your help -

I wish I knew...I'd tell you if I did know. Take it to the dealer...that's what the warranty is for.

Yeah, I know. But I'm already having tune withdrawal and it's only been half a day! I may have to get a boom box and strap it in the back seat until I can get it fixed!

That's all you can do. Boom box it!

Check the wiring to the HK amp. Go to the boot and open the right side panel. Maybe remove and replug the connectors.
I've seen HK amps die so that is not out of the question either.

It's going in to the dealer today so I'll report back what happens.

Thanks for the feedback everybody!

Sounds similar to what happened to me. ...Around Sept last year my amp died. No reason give by dealer - it just stopped. Car is a first build week 03. Amp was replaced under warranty. Ironic, considering I hardly use the stereo. ...Too busy listening to the exhaust, etc.

I also had the radio do the same thing and it was the amp, that was replaced with the warranty.

Hmmmmm this is sounding like it could be a common issue. Anyone want to start a poll?

I can't remeber the cost, but the service tech showed me the cost - it was way too expensive for what it is - esp. considering that it died

I documented my HK problems pretty well over on MINI2. It took a while before I found someone with the same issue. Judging from the high number of revisions of the amp, it has had problems.

My problems occurred with cold temperatures, and only afflicted the rear speakers (Static, grumbling, high-pitched tone, no sound at all, or working fine--random one of the above).

My amp finally got replaced two weeks ago but of course I'll have to wait till next winter to see if it's fixed.

I've had a number of other brand class-d (all chip) amps go out. It's not unheard of.

Well... to add to the dis-satisfactory experience with the HK system...

My FM reception SUCKS! ...Stations - local, POWERFUL stations fade in and out - we are talking 10 miles or less. I end up hitting the next pre-set up or down, then switch back to keep it tuned in.

My 2005 MC w/ H/K has two separate radio fuses in the kick panel. Could it be that?
