Need to eject NAV disk

Soooooo....like I'm trying to update my NAV software with the latest version and it's a <ahem> "trial version." I followed the directions and turned the car on, let the map come up, ejected the disk and inserted the new "trial version." The Mini startup screen keeps popping up, the screen will go blank and you can hear the disk spinning up, but nada....no new NAV. I keep trying to eject the disk, but nothing happens. Any suggestions, ideas, etc.?? Thanks!

You may need to press the eject button a few times. The system will give it up when it is done trying to read / boot from it..

I've tried pressing the button a bunch of times, waiting for awhile. Nada, nothing happens. The startup screen just keeps coming on, disk spinning up and down, rinse, wash, repeat.....

Fracky, your "trial version" isn't an update, but rather a completely new NAV DVD. 2005-B I believe. If your NAV isn't recognizing it, then you're going to have to do as has been said---hold down the button for several minutes, and do machine gun presses until it comes out. I know it's a sucky process, but seems to be the only way without complete seat/nav removal.

I wouldn't worry though---since this wasn't the Firmware update, nothing will be damaged to your NAV. That is once you get it out and put it the old DVD it should be back to normal. I can't say the same for when this happens to people with the firmware cd/British Female update though.

I just recieved mine, and I made a copy to my HD for safe keeping. But I haven't had a chance to put it in yet. I noticed the DVD was burned using DVD + R media. Just wondering if that may have anything to do with it? I'm also curious if anyone else has had any issues. I might try buring a DVD - R just for kicks.

I've had conformation from nearly a dozen folks now and they're not having any problems. I have seen one report of someone missing the MINI logo when they first open their door after inserting the new map disc, but this turned out to be a false alarm.

I have a DVD+R copy of my original nav disc in both of my MINIs and it's working just fine for me. As Richard has said, it's quite possible that the older nav computers could be having trouble reading a DVD+R disc. Both of my MINIs are 2005's and they don't have any problems. I've also put one in a 2004 and it worked fine.

Lastly, remember the old saying that goes... Beggars can't be choosers.

EDIT: I've just had another conformation from a 12/03 built MINI that a DVD+R is working fine for them. Thus, I don't think that this has anything to do with the DVD format (i.e. all of the DVD drives should read +R formats just fine). I think that Fracky might just have a bad disc is all.

Ok, I was able to eject the DVD. OfficeMaven had a good suggestion: prop open the plastic door to the DVD player, machine gun the eject button and wait until it ejected. I drove around for a couple minutes and sho'nuff, it spit right out. The build date for my Frackmobile was 2/03. I'm not sure what version NAV software I have. It's one of the few things on the car that I never bothered to tamper with. Thanks for your help guys!

Glad you got it out. Oh yeah, I forgot that crucial little tip--of propping the door open when you do the "machine gun". LOL

Mine's a July 03 build so I'm a bit concerned as well, but I'm going to try the DVD-R first. Can't be anything worse than it getting jammed. LOL LOL.

Hi Fracky,

AWESOME! I'm very glad to hear that the disc finally ejected. I'm guessing that you just got a bad disc is all and the unit was simply having trouble reading it and so it didn't want to spit it out. As Richard said, it's just a map data disc (and not a firmware update disc) and so no harm can come to your nav computer.

BTW, you can tell what version firmware you have by clicking on the "Menu" button on your DVD screen and selecting the "Settings" option (or "Set" if you are in GB mode). The firmware version number will be displayed in the upper right-hand corner in the form of "4-1/xx" where the "xx" is replaced by a number that indicates the firmware version. The latest release is 4-1/50. However, you probably won't notice much of a difference by updating the firmware (and you risk getting another disc stuck in the unit) and so it's kind of like the old saying goes... If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
