Radio removial/aux install

Hey does anyone know where I can find a guide on here to show me how to remove my radio so I can install the aux input in my Mini. I don't want to go unscrewing things. I looked on here for over 15 min and did several searchs and couldn't find anything. Thanks!!

I know there's a thread here, but this http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?f..._faq_head_unit will work just as well

I don't think you need to remove the headunit, just give a good tug to the panel under the steering wheel. It should open. From there you will able to get access to the head unit's rear and plug in your AUX kit. Hope this help. Very easy to do, takes about a minute or two to install the kit. GL

Ok got the knee boloster down but is the plug the same on an o5? The one in the pic is an 03. I'm going to try to see if I can find the input. It says there is a plug right next to the radio not the radio itself. Hrmm.

i do not believe the plug is any different in an 05 the two i installed it on were 04's the plug should be on the bottom of the head unit on the same side as teh volume control, and the clip on the plug should be on top and make sure it clicks when you insert it

Nice. Thanks for all the help everyone. I got it installed fine but I did have to take the radio out as I couldn't reach behind it to plug it in. I have small hands so I thought it would be easy. It wasn't too bad. Here's a few pics. Yes I still don't have a digicam yet. Only my Nokia 3620. LOL.
yes that's a Lamp. Don't ask. lol

halfway done!!

The plug!!!

almost finished. putting radio back in.

and bam it's finished!!!!!!! I ended up mounting the input on my large cup holder right between the 2 silver metal frames and tied them off with the tieoffs. It accually came out nice. The 2 pics I took came out small for some reason but once I get a better camera i'll post some better ones. Thanks for all the help.

Too bad you had the build the whole thing out, I managed to do it with my small hands and with the attached picture where the bottom of the picture is the top side of the radio I could feel my way arround.

After I took out the knee bolster, I used a small mirror (borrowed from my wife ) so I could see where to plug the aux input. It was easy. Taking the radio out seems complicated, so I didn't want to try it.

WildOne,

What type of screws held the radio in? I will be replacing my stock head unit the day I get the car.

Can't remember right off hand but when I get home i'll take a look. It's a torax or torix number 7 or 8 I think. I'll make sure though once I get home.
It accually took me less time to take the radio out than I thought. I was looking and feeling around for 25 min when It only took me 5 to take the radio out. I had to tug on the knee bollister(which was scary) to get to the 2 screws on the drivers side downtube(which takes a bigger size torix bit than the passanger side) once that's unscrewed, you need to open the glove box and take the 2 out of that downtube. Once that is done comes the scary part. I had to pull the plastic dash part around my chrono packate(or center speedo) which also pulled the airbag cover open a little at the bottom. I didn't take it completely off but just enough to pull the downtubes to the side enough to see the screws. There are only 4 torix screws that hold it in. I believe it is t7 or 8 but again am not positive yet. Once those are out the radio comes out with no effort and still has enough slack to do whatever. I will post the exact size shortly.

Anyone else want to pitch in for a trouble light for WildOne??

Interesting that you have two different size Torx bits for the two sides. All cars I've seen have the same size on both sides, though the 2002 had BIG (T40?) screws, while my '04 had T20.

Man was I off. Fjo was right. It is a T25 for the drivers side downtube(yes it is 2 different size screws. Wierd I know) and a T20 for everything else. (the radio, passenger side downtube)

Maby it's just the 05's but I assure you, mine was 2 different sizes. Once I took one out on the drivers side top, I wasn't able to screw it back in. Like the top one was different threads than the bottom one. So I just left it out.
