Grrr . . . Satellite Radio and MINI

Perhaps someone out there can help me. I have a new '05 MCSC, and I want to get satellite radio installed. As we know you can't get factory satellite radio in an '05, because MINI and Sirius are incompatible until further notice. I'd rather have XM radio anyway for various reasons (better reception, I prefer the programming, etc.). But I'm in a Catch-22 situation. XM has a BMW/MINI adaptor (BMWXMD100) that allows you to install the XM universal tuner box and play it through the factory Harmon Kardon unit. Great, huh? Well, no. XM will only sell the adaptor to a BMW or MINI dealer. Installers (Best Buy, Circuit City, Long Radio, Tweeter) can't get the part. I've contacted two New England MINI dealers, and they won't get it for me, because BMW/MINI only installs Sirius systems. I called ASK-MINI, and I got the same song and dance. To paraphrase . . . We only deal with Sirius, but you can't get Sirius in an '05 MINI until we get the technical problems fixed.

Has anyone managed to overcome this craziness? Any advice would be welcome.

Had this for the summer and it works great. No loss of signal even under long underpasses. Good luck

I have the XM Skyfi receiver plugged into the AUX jack, mounted below the toggle switch panel and it works great. The orange lighting even matches the instrument lights perfectly

Thanks. Just ordered it. (Even XM customer service didn't have this information.)

I want satellite radio but know nothing about them except there is subscription required and there is a large selection of uninterruptible music available.
I have a standard radio in my MCS (whatever it is), will the XM Direct Satellite Radio Receiver w/ BMW Harness just plug into my system? Or do I have the wrong radio to do this modification?
Are there other economical alternatives?

You need a completely different antanae. A xm radio and a Blitzsafe converter. (3 pieces) It is an easy install. It took me less than an hour but it was easy. I ordered my stuff from myradio.com.

Beek;
I went to myradio.com and their site is under construction and not available.
So are you saying I cannot use the XM Direct Satellite Radio Receiver w/ BMW Harness? And need to use another system, or just a different antenna with the above-mentioned system?

I like the portable receiver, you can use it in other cars, house, or a "boombox". Just install the MINI/BMW AUX jack and plug the receiver into the jack and the cigarette lighter. Check the XM site for the Delphi receiver. I got mine at Best Buy. PM me if you need more info...Mike
