2006 Bluetooth Compatible?

Hey fellow MC enthusiasts,

I swapped out the audio deck in my '06 S hardtop, and am thinking of putting it back in. The only thing holding me back is I can't remember if it's bluetooth compatible. Does anybody know the answer?

Cheers,

Andrew

I believe not, unfortunately. But they're reputed to have the ability to read MP3 files, and show a lot more info in the HU window.

OTOH, there are numerous inexpensive aftermarket Bluetooth adapters available these days, but they'll connect to the HU in different ways and the sound quality will be sketchy for most of the cheaper options.

The factory headunit has no built-in Bluetooth capability. Even the rare and expensive OEM Bluetooth accessory was a separate module that plugged into the back of a standard headunit.

Gromaudio.com makes a great unit that plugs into the CD changer in the boot and allows you to use the steering wheel controls etc.

Check it out.

+1 Correct. The OEM ones are here , I have the full system and i like it, still connects everyday and works great for an older add on system. I like when the women's voice when you hit the speak button,..... she says " Sorry... Sorry "

Yeah the SES is terrible. Fear not, we got an i3 recently and it's still terrible.

Totally on a honeymoon with the car as a package.

The infotainment is the best of a bad bunch. It still has a few bugs like when you plug in an iphone to charge via USB, it doesn't pipe the navigation instructions over the radio - you need to be on an iPhone source. Also you can't easily get from a yelp/maps search to 'send this address to the car'. For some reason it uses 3G instead of LTE and each time you open one of the downloaded Java applets it sees the need to update it, even if only minutes have passed.

Compared to the crappy 1990's Alpine thing with the touch mouse on a Lexus or the super basic Audi/Mercedes/jaguar/volvo offerings BMW is a generation or two better and since it runs on linux which means it's powerful enough to take proper firmware changes from BMW/the forums including adding new features and OTA applets like weather and stocks and Yelp.

Just recently they added smart labs that can trigger home automation events when the car leaves the house or office. Someone installed a GPS time feature that was a standard linux kernel.

It does need carplay and the voice control still sucks. The fact you can use the control wheel as a touchpad to write the letters of the address on the top is sweet. Being able to preheat the car before I leave is cool when i remember to do it.

Cools, thanks for the review, The dash and the seats when I drove it are pretty cool. Has a very modern hose feel to it. the display looks like a sideways ipad. Did you get the new orange ?

We got it in white and stuck a Lego stormtrooper sticker on the back. It's amazing for the commute. Nippy and peaceful, with no percussion from a gearbox or vibration from the idling engine. It's also more spacious than an X5 for a taller person like me.

The keyless go combined with a garage door opener and a Kevo means I have reached one personal nirvana of not needing a keyring any more.

The radar cruise is great as is the auto braking and full PDC etc.

The car is light, short wheelbase, with thin tyres and a quick rack. It's a city vehicle and is not great on a rutted freeway like a nice long 5 series would be. This is just physics and geometry. Some say H&R springs or the smaller wheels help with the twitchyness.

Yea, those tire are very special and are very narrow for the height. Its nice that H&R did make springs for it.
