Mini Connected app for Android

Curious how the Mini Connected app for Android compares to the iPhone version in the F56. Is the functionality basically the same or are the major feature gaps between platforms? Has anyone done a comparison recently or have any impressions to share?

Just based on the Play Store reviews (1k downloads, 1.6 star rating, 33 reviews), the Android version appears to be severely lacking in functionality and stability. I am still thinking of installing it and trying it out though, just for a first hand experience.

I heard it's horrible, never tried to dl it. It's like the proverbial red-headed stepchild compared to the iPhone app.

The fact that you have to use USB instead of Bluetooth means I won't use it.

Downloaded it, tried it out. It's not horrible, it works, but it only has Facebook/Twitter integration, along with pulling your calendar and RSS feeds that you can configure through the app.

It's definitely light years behind the iOS app in terms of functionality. I don't really see myself using it all that much, if at all. I don't mind the USB connection part, that means I can just charge my phone that way, instead of the lighter adapter car charger.

Is it worth switching to Iphone for mini connected? You don't get much on Android (using galaxy s3). Basically text messages, newsfeed, facebook, twitter.

I'm looking for a new phone and just ordered a Oneplus One, but might get an iphone instead if there is something worthwhile in mini connected.

I have an iPhone and would find it silly to switch platforms just for Mini Connect. Stick to what you can afford or enjoy using.

Mini connected offers so little that it shouldn't be a factor in your decision. As Chad says, choose whatever phone you want based on other reasons.

I find Mini Connected annoying in that it ties up the phone so you can't use other apps at the same time, i.e. Waze. When you hit the home button on the iPhone it won't work in the background.

This is my opinion as well. I've yet to find the raison d'être for Mini connected. *If* it could connect to the internet and download to the NAV a route or sequence of routes that you set up at a desktop, then I could see its value.

Until mini connected supports Bluetooth, its a useless feature.

I agree with Chad as well. I've had both Android and iOS phones, and keep an old iPhone in the armrest to use MINI Connected. But after the novelty wears off, there's really no reason to use it other than access to web radio. I also wish it were possible to connect to a nav app, but of course MINI isn't going to compete with itself. I also doubt given BMW's lack of interest that they will play nice with either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. I'm wondering if anyone without a navigation system has tried using GoPro through MINI Connected, and if the video shows up? Just curious.

Download Journey Mate. Connects with the NAV for the F56.

One more thing that looks promising and turns out to be annoying. To use journey mate the phone has to be connected then I can't use Spotify because I can only use Journey Mate and vice versa. Am I missing something?

I have a HTC M8 and really liked the fact that I could check my texts and emails (and have them read out loud) using the Bluetooth Office function. I just upgraded the firmware on my phone to 4.4.4 and can now only check texts.
Anyone else notice this?
