Issues with AUX on after-market system
Hi there!
Shortly after I bought my '06 Cooper, I had an after-market sound system installed. It was done at an independent garage, not Best Buy or whatever. The head unit is a Pioneer Premier DEH-P580MP, the speakers, subs, and amp are also Pioneer.
Like I said in another thread, the car was in storage for two years. The battery had died, so when I got the car started up I wasn't surprised that AUX was not working -- dead battery meant my head unit had lost all of its settings. No big deal, turned the AUX back on in the unit's settings. I can select it as a Source just fine now, but it doesn't give me any sound. The CD player works, radio works, and XM/Sirius works even though none of the lights on my digital receiver are on, including power. At least, I think it's a digital receiver. The box looks like this:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...dio/GEX-P920XM
But I'm not sure it's that model number, just a silver Pioneer box with similar plugs on the back. It's tucked behind the carpet/glovebox on the passenger side. That's also where the auxiliary cable runs to.
All of the wires I can actually see are plugged in. Everything else sounds fantastic and it's totally worth having no boot. Also, I've had problems with the driver side door ever since the system was installed. The cable comes unhooked and it won't open from the outside.
Like I said, I didn't install this system myself. I'd like to fix it myself, though. Can anyone give me an idea of why the aux isn't working (other than a bad aux cable, which I'll replace first just in case), and tell me how to open up the door to fix the outside handle problem? Thanks!

When you say aux, I assume you mean a Pioneer Aux? The only thing to suggest is to check all the aux wiring for damage and pulling the power and doing a reset.
Consider that electronics, especially those that's built down to a price and not tested thoroughly for longevity, does simply stop working sometimes if left in storage. The PB components can age and connections and solder joints can corrode.
Did you jumpstart the car? Electrical damage can happen also.

I mean the auxiliary input, allowing me to play an MP3 player through the sound system. I can select and turn on AUX on the head unit, but I don't get any sound. The headphone jack runs through the Pioneer digital tuner I linked above, which should also be running my satellite radio. The box does not seem to be getting any power (the lights are not on), but everything I can see is plugged in and the satellite radio works. It's very strange.
I have not jump-started the car. Just put in a new battery.
I didn't install this system myself, so I don't know how to take it apart. Where would the aux wiring be? All I can easily access is the aux input adapter, which is plugged into the digital tuner, and the headphone jack which is plugged into the adapter.

I talked to a best buy about installing a head unit and he said that the OEM aux input would no longer work. He said that I would need to buy an aftermarket aux unit for about twenty bucks. Something to do with the wiring not working with the new head? I asked if he could splice into the OEM wires and he said they've done it but it was pretty janky. So that's what best buy said to me about my 2011 CMS with non HK. Cheers
Did you feel like the people at Best Buy were fairly knowledgeable? The garage that installed my system in the first place is back home in another state, so I'm wondering if maybe I should just take it to Best Buy or something and see if they can figure out what's wrong.
Yeah, my car doesn't use the OEM AUX input for the same reason. The garage said they could pull it off, but that it was excessively complicated and way easier for everyone involved to just do it another way. Fine by me, everything tucks away nicely behind carpeting and plastic.
