Need help IDing this unit...

Hi guys and gals. I purchased a 2007 Mini S a few months ago, and I love the car. I am trying to get my phone hooked up to play through the radio, and while I can use the AUX input in front of the shifter, I'd prefer to make use of the iPod connector in the glove box.

I have this strange unit in a compartment above the glove box, which I don't know what it is. You can see the labels/etc on the bottom of it when I pull it out. This box is what the iPod cable goes into, and there is also a plug that looks like an optical connection.

Anyway, I hooked a bluetooth adapter to the iPod cable but it doesn't look like it's getting power. Also the only options my radio has are Tuner, CD, CD Changer, and AUX. But I don't have a CD changer, so I can't figure out how to get input from the iPod connector either way!

So if someone could tell me what this unit does, and how to toggle the radio to input from the iPod connector hooked to this unit, I'd be really grateful.

Edit: I should also add I don't think this car has bluetooth. It has the phone buttons on the wheel, but I can't find any BT options on the radio display.

Thanks a ton!

i believe that you put it on cd changer to listen to your ipod.. it has the most bus(fiber optic) input on the right of your picture.. if you remove it you will need to splice the most bus back together...

Hey thanks for the response! When I try to put my radio on cd changer, it just says INSERT MAG. You think that box is some sort of iPod adapter?

yes i believe thats what it is.. i am guessing your car did not have ipod/bluetooth.. i do know for sure that the way its hooked up is thru the most bus and if it is recognizing a cd changer on your display it should work. try to plug in your ipod and listen to it thru the changer option..

Yes, that is absolutely the "ipod adapter" that plugs into the changer connection.

If you had the bluetooth system, you would not have that adapter as the bluetooth/ULF module contains the ipod & USB system. (You would see a USB port next your AUX in jack).

So if you put your head unit on Changer and then plug in your ipod it should work.

If it doesn't work you may need to get the car coded for the retrofit. Someone may have installed it themselves and did not get the programming done.

Yes, iPod MOST interface http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...63&hg=65&fg=95

As strobeyprobey says it emulates the CDC so try selecting that
