Installed a belkin aircast bluetooth kit

UPDATE: I replaced the Belkin unit with a Kinivo BTC450. See below for more details

I searched around here and didn't see anyone post this so I thought I'd post about it in case anyone was curious about them. The installation is super easy and works very seamlessly in a Mini

The sound is good and the call quality is decent.

I bought it here: http://amzn.com/B004CLYJ2I

Update. I sent the belkin unit back and bought this one:
Kinivo BTC450 Kinivo BTC450

It's only $35 and has dedicated buttons for skipping tracks which is great because the belkin one can be a little finicky. I tucked all the extra cable behind the little knee pad thing on the column.

How's the music sound quality, A2DP is not always known for its sound quality. It is a cool idea, but if I can just hook up a cable for better sound quality, I might prefer that

It's actually pretty good. The level might be a tiny bit lower but there's no real loss of quality, at least not one you can detect in the stock speakers.

Haha yeah, if it wasn't for my rear windshield wiper, I would not be able to look through my rear windshield because of all the salt and sand that's sticking to it.

Oh and I have the rubber floormats, they're amazing. No sand and salt that sticks there, it just lays on it.

Hi, Im looking to add bluetooth to my mini. Does this adapter let you use the buttons on the Steering Wheel? is it easy to install or you need to take it to a shop? Also, how did you install the 3.5 mm audio input?

Let me know

Thanks

The steering wheel controls will still control the volume but they won't change tracks. You can however skip tracks on the actual bluetooth unit. Installation is extremely easy. You just plug into the AUX input and the cigarette lighter.

Here's an ancient thread

Aux-in is an OEM option, <$40, and and easy install, especially if you don't hard mount it.

Well I got mine up and running today and the sound quality on the streaming audio is amazing. I also like that I can turn up the AUX volume and over ride the damn HK audio limeter. I am still messing with the phone portion but so far I'm really happy. Now I just need to sell my DICE box.

I have this DICE unit
http://www.amazon.com/Dice-i-BMW-T-S.../dp/B000JVQWVQ

And using the iPhone connector i can't tell ANY fidelity difference but then again if I want the BEST out of it I still use CD's. I am still messing around with the phone part.... I haven't had much of an opportunity to use it. So far the only draw back for me is that I can't use the steering wheel control to advance or go back on my play list. Not a big deal but I had gotten used to being able to do it.

Call quality on my end is pretty good. I've heard mixed things from the people I've talked to. None of them had to ask me to repeat things though. Not perfect but definitely better than talking while driving or plugging in a headset each time.

Plus if you have an iPhone, Siri is very handy while driving.

As an update... I love this unit for the music but I have to admit the people on the other side of the phone say that it's completely horrid as soon as the car starts moving. When I am sitting still they say it's crystal clear but as soon as I get some cabin noise it cuts out and is completely unintelligible.

That's odd. No one has complained or asked me to repeat myself. Where did you stick the microphone? Do you have a loud exhaust? Could be defective I suppose.

The exhaust isn't bad when I go easy on it, which I was for the testing. I placed the unit in the same place you did your Belkin.

I am wanting to add a better Bluetooth setup to my r56.
The retrofit kit is insane $$$

So to be clear, you can plug the Bluetooth into my aux port, pair the phone, and then stream music via Bluetooth through the aux connection?

If a call comes in then the music mutes and you are I conversation mode?

Thanks.

As long as your radio is in AUX mode, then yes it will mute the music. Tap the button and answer the phone. If you are listening to the radio or a CD and you receive a call you have to switch to AUX before you can "use the Phone".
