Navigation & Audio iPhone 5 and Mini Connect
You need to use the MINI Y-Cable supplied with your car and an Apple 30pin to Lightning (short) adapter to get most of the features to work. You are not trying to just plug the Apple USB to Lightning cable that came with the iPhone5 directly into the car's USB port are you? Because that will only charge the phone.
I can't comment on the Bluetooth streaming if that is what you are trying to do - can't do that on my car. I only use BT for phone call/siri support.
I am still not getting any charge errors. Audio/Podcasts work fine. Apple maps works very well for me in Toronto and of course music playback works well with the audible map directions. Siri also works well although it would be nice to have a steering wheel button to activate it. All in all no issues for me with using the standard USB/audio integration on the H/K stereo (no MINI Connected or GPS) together with the MINI Y-Cable and Apple 30pin-Lightning adapter.

Of course it is technically illegal since the driver can see it.Michael
I am still unsure, i have an ipad and the wife has a 4s, my 4 is just going down hill, the home button is getting sticky.
Do you have info on hacking the connected?
thanks flipper! i thought this was Teressa posting

I did get my iPhone 5 working with the Mini Cooper; I ended up factory resetting the phone, then syncing it with a cable to my Mac and iTunes to get the music over to it. That worked fine in the Mini Cooper using the Mini Cooper cable to 30 pin connector and then the Apple 30 pin to Lightning adapter into the iPhone.
Then to make sure it was not iTunes Match, I turned that on and it still works.
So all good!

UPDATE: I have found the iPhone 5 does charge. Once in a while it says "charging is not supported with this accessory". Unplug, re-plug (sometimes takes a couple times) and it works. That threw me off at first, hence my initial report.

Just like this
I got mine the other day.
iPod out through the "MINI Connect" Plugin feature does not work still. All the other MINI Connect features seem to work including FB/Twitter.
I can still get Album Art and Album information on my standard MINI USB Connection screen via "CD/Multimedia" and then having the iPhone hooked in with the standard Y Cable and the 30 Pin Adapter. Steering wheel controls work just fine from there (including volume and skipping tracks) and it charges the phone.

My guess this matter will be solved SOON via a new Y-cable, software update or both.
Off topic, but Pandora works fine with the 5.
Hmmm - with all the fretting over the limitations of the lightening usb cable and snapping the wires to the iPhone every time you use the car, would it not be much simpler to just get an iPod? I have a 4th gen iPod (plenty still available - and on sale!) that is dedicated to the MINI - that means I never unplug it unless I want to connect to my laptop every once in a great while. It stays fully charged and drops down into the little net on the left-side of the passenger footwell. I never touch it. It is tethered to my Android (I don't have an iPhone) and absolutely everything is fully functional. My Android phone is Bluetoothed and the address book fully downloads, so between the iPod and the Android, it's quite seamless. I can even usb my Android to the cigarette lighter socket to keep it juiced. But the best part is that I never have to plug things in when I get in the car. The iPod wireless finds my Android hotspot automatically.
I almost did not get MINI Connected because I don't have an iPhone. As an Android devotee, I never expected (unless I'm missing something here) that for the price of an old iPod I would have an even better set-up than I'd have with an iPhone.

Yes and no. I have a '11 Cooper with MINI Connected and the iPhone 5. I bought Apple's $30 lightning to 30-pin adapter. The app launches and MINI Connected recognizes the phone and the various apps show up (Facebook, Google, etc.). I also get music to play.
What happens though, is that MINI Connected loses the phone connection every 10-15 minutes. Disconnecting and reconnecting the cable doesn't help. You have to restart the phone. This could be either a software issue with iOS 6, or a cable adapter issue.
Anyone using an iPhone 4s with iOS 6?

I have a '13 JCW with MINI Connected and an iPhone 5. I can get MINI Connected to work with the Apple supplied USB-lightning cable and a separate aux jack but the car seems to lose connection with the phone after 5-15 minutes.
I've tried doing a factory reset and resynch with my computer but that didn't seem to help. So far only a restart on the iPhone works.
It would be nice if there was some sort of fix besides not using an iPhone 5.

Honestly? Unless you're ally needing to duplicate the iPhone interface in your dash instead of using the controls that MINI gives you I would recommend the iPhone 5. The future of connectivity will be for that model.

Kurtster I thought about that but I hate to lose the video interface. I have an active teenager and spend a lot of time in parking lots waiting for practice to end.. lol I really only want the BT, TM, and Video. I guess I could consider getting an older Ipod and just leaving it in the car for the video portion.
Okay. First day with the new car. MINI Connected app on the iPad says connection failure when I use either the Y cable from MINI or a standard Apple cable. It also doesn't charge. Is it possible I'm doing something wrong?
When using the Y-cable from MINI, it does start playing tracks from the iPad and displaying the album artwork on the screen. I can also navigate through artists, playlists, etc. on the dash, but the app on the iPad seems unable to talk to the car.

My MINI Connected is working almost perfectly with my iPhone 5. Just that when I go to my playlists I don't see all my songs in them, they look slightly different (songs missing) from my actual playlists on the phone. Let's say I have a Playlist called 'Hits' with 30 songs, I can only see 20 of them. It's like the version of the playlist that I see through MINI Connected wasn't the most recent, songs that I added in the last month won't show up.
Any advice?
(I use iTunes Match and would like to stick to it, if possible)
Thanks.

This may be posted on here, but I missed it if it is. My only issue with iPhone 5 and MINI Connected is when I play songs from the phone. If I select an artist from the menu and then select play it shuffles all the songs. But, if I select an artist and an album it plays the songs from track one on up; it's weird.

So, just open up the playlist on your phone, scroll to the bottom, and you'll see a download button. Press this, and you'll see the songs start to download.
This is a "feature" of iTunes Match. Basically, the songs that you're missing are the ones that are still in the "cloud". You need to download them to the phone to see them on the car. It sucks because you can see them on the phone, and even play them, but when connected to a car, they are hidden.
