Any good bluetooth kits for 1st gen?
Hi all; it's been a few years since I checked in on this -- thought I'd ask you.
I have a 2006 R52 (S Cabrio) with MFSW, H/K stereo, NAV, and aftermarket "Intravee II" with "Alpine KCA-420i" ipod interface.
I'm looking for a bluetooth hands-free phone kit with the following features:
H/K Audio system integration.
MFSW phone button integration.
Caller ID on NAV screen.
Bluetooth streaming music from an iPhone, text to speech, no visible hardware would all be welcome bonuses, but not requirements.
Any products out there fit the bill?

I myself was looking at the Dice mediabridge 1500. I have all you have but with the stock deck. Avg price is $225. There are mixed reviews on if this will work with the navigation. But even still the streaming, wheel control, text on stock head unit & voice over the radio seems worth it still.
Mediabridge does have a lot of good features. I guess the biggest drawback for me is that it doesn't use the actual phone buttons on the mfsw. I'm sort of a purist; I loathe the electrical switch in my bedroom that doesn't control anything, and I bought my MINI with front and rear fog lamps because I didn't want blanks in the console.
I agree with you though, not having NAV screen integration is a fair trade-off for the sheer number of features.

Sorry, what I mean is that the phone functions do not use the phone buttons of the mfsw. The following report from the Amazon product page sums up the concerns:

Basically, this does what it promises with a couple of limitations that are really inherent in the host system, not the Mediabridge. The main one is that incoming phone calls will not interrupt the radio. When the phone rings, you have to use the Mode button to switch to the Mediabridge, then the track advance button to answer the call. The phone buttons on the steering wheel are not operative. Considering that the Mediabridge works through the CD changer interface, there is probably no way to avoid this, but it is a nuisance. Dialing is strictly from the phone itself.
Are you sure?
Phineas, I just installed my Mediabridge today on my 2007 MCS convertible. I have basically the same setup as you, sans nav.
I read that review you found too, but read far more that said "that's wrong, steering wheel phone buttons work".
I'm going to synch up the iPhone via Bluetooth tomorrow, and will get to see for myself. Given how great USB playback worked through iPhone today I almost don't care if it works (even though hands-free was the reason I bought this in the first place).
Given that I have two Toyotas with MFSW controls, I get where you are coming from; that said, this set up I got today with the Mediabridge is pretty amazing so far. See my long pet in the Mediabridge Q/A thread that I just put up re: my install.
Good luck on your decision.

carimer,
Thanks so much for that information; I should really not put as much stock in Amazon reviews as I do.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the final setup -- the phone portion of the MediaBridge (with iPhone) is what interests me most since I already have a good iPod interface in my car. Presumably I'd have to remove my existing iPod adapter (that plugs in to the CD changer ports in the boot) to make room for a MediaBridge, right?

Phineas, I had a chance to pair my iPhone to the Mediabridge system yesterday. The Bluetooth function works very well -- impressive sound, actually. I have a convertible & was able to test the microphone & phone function as I drove, with calls to my wife & her returning calls to me.
The "phone" button on the MFSW is pressed to answer calls, and hang up calls, as hoped. This is great! What I did NOT test was whether the system will take a call (via bluetooth) while I'm in another mode. My guess is not -- I am thinking that if I'm in FM radio mode, I'll have to quickly scroll over to Mediabridge, THEN answer the call. That small annoyance is worth it to me, because this system works perfectly otherwise.
Hope this helps & have fun with your decision.
