Go to MiniUSA.com, click on Owners Resources, then under "Bluetooth Phone & Pairing info:", click on ">GET IT HERE", then "View All Currently Tested Phones", Fill in Coupe, or whatever model, your cell phone carrier, then Next button and see all the models.

Both my HTC EVO Shift and Samsung Epic (Galaxy S) pair just fine.

There's a sticky in the Navigation & Audio forum that has an EXTENSIVE list of phones and compatibility that users on the forums have compiled.

I have easily paired 2 different Android phones to my 2007 MCS: an HTC Incredible in 2010, and a Samsung Galaxy Nexus this year (currently using).

Motorola Droid, Droid X, Samsung Galaxy II all have been used in my car with no problems. And as such should not be a problem in the newer cars either.

That listing is very in accurate and is only for MINI tested (actually tested by an outside company) and not done in a real world test environment. It is done with the Bluetooth parts on a bench in a laboratory.

The only real way to know if the phones are going to work it to try it and see. The reason for this is there are at any one time 3-4 firmware versions for any one phone and not all of those are fully compatible with any specific bluetooth set up.

Yes the list can give you some indication of what phone MAY work but there are a lot "not" on the list that surely will work. And in some cases if it does not seem to work making some changes in the settings for the bluetooth make it work just fine. I.E. making it non-discoverable is one of them. If it is set for discoverable it may pair and connect but will not stay connected in most cases

If that is the case, then your statement:

doesn't mean much... if there are "3-4 firmware versions" then you probably should have disclosed what version you are using on each of those devices.

LG Nitro HD no problems. Great phone from AT&T for $100 with new line or renewal.

It is very unusual for a phone to work with one firware version and not another. I has happened a couple of times, as I recall with an older Apple product (I think it was a music player wired in, not a phone). But bluetooth is bluetooth for the most part, and firmware updates are usually concerned with the operating system's features and glitches. I don't think complicating things with firmware updates serves much purpose.

I should have been a little more specific and here it is.

I have NEVER had a Motorola phone of any kind that did not work with MINI BMW Bluetooth of any version.

Samsung phones are very good as well and unless it is a 2-3 old version there should not be a problem.

As for Erickson, Sony, Nokia, and LG they are VERY VERY particular.

LG are the worst as they are trying to make all their phone only compatible with their own accessories

Actually firmware IS important. Especially so for Android phones, because the bluetooth stack is not necessarily common on all Android platforms. For example Samsung uses an own version of the stack which supports features like rSAP not available in the google firmware. Galaxy S2 running ICS uses a different stack that has less features than the one in Gingerbread. Cyanogenmod also adds MAP support (Message Access Profile) not available in other distributions.

Phonebook access is the most severe problem... Glad I got a FISCON, since it does have frequent updates and broad compatibility.

and an update my new Motorola Droid 4 paired up in about 10 seconds and uploaded teh contact list (650+ contacts) in about 2 minutes.

Oh and it paired up to an old 2003 BMW 525 wagon with no problem either. Cant say that for some of the other brands. Go Motorola ( sorry about the shameless plug but i have never had a problem with them pairing with any BMW/MINI vehicle no mater how old or new)

No, I think you are perfectly all right to plug Motorola... they have the best radios (the way to communicate with cell towers)... and after pairing my Motorola RAZR MAXX with my new 2012 MINI Cooper S Coupe yesterday, and uploading the contacts list (only 200+ contacts)... no issues... it was very easy.
