Sound System Upgrade!

Hey guys, just wanted to share the first phase of my sound system. I'm not an audiophile, I just wanted some bass and to be able to turn it UP without having everything go muddy. I ended up with a JVC KD-R728BT head unit, Soundstream Lil Wonder l2.210 2ch 210w amp, and a 10" MTX Audio subwoofer.

I actually had a different HU initially, but after the install the tech couldn't get it tuned quite right and wasn't happy with the sound and how it was responding to filter inputs, etc. All of the jargon was over my head, but he said that since he wasn't happy with it, it wasn't good enough. I came in the next day and they upgraded it for no additional charge. The shop owner spent a good 20m getting it tuned just right for the music I had on a flash drive, and asked me to come in any time if I needed anything tweaked that I was unsure of doing myself. Really great service (Elevated Audio/Video in Victoria, Canada if any locals are looking.)

I'm really happy with the sound. The HU has USB front/rear, bluetooth/mic, and aux in. Music off a USB drive sounds way better than streaming from my android phone via Aux or BT.

This seems to be just as slippery a slope as suspension/power upgrades, so I'll probably end up with new speakers before long.

I can't at the moment because I didn't have the cash on hand to install the wiring harness or adapter or whatever it is, but it IS available. The head unit is "wheel control ready" and the part to make it functional was about $130 installed. I was determined to pay in cash and keep my credit cards out of the equation, so I'll be going back for that later. I need to get the radio antenna installed as well, as they didn't have the one needed in stock.

I'm really glad I did it. The sound is much better and it actually translates to enjoying both driving AND music more than before. The only downside I've found is I tend to have it louder than I should, which means I can't hear the revs climbing, so I've been "accidentally speeding."

I have the same head unit. I installed the bluetooth mic next to the tach. The sound quality is terrible. How has it been for you with the mic located low?

I have actually only made one phone call, at the time of install to the shop phone, to test. I haven't used it while driving, so I can't say. I'll have to make a call while the car is moving and I'll report back

Well, made another test phone call today, and the person on the other end could barely hear me. I rarely, if ever, use the phone while driving, so I am not too worried about it. But this placement does not seem to work.
