What is the easiest IPOD hook up?
I have a 04 with HK sound and steering wheel controls. What adapters are available for me to add an IPOD hook up retaining the steering wheel controls?
I have the OEM mini setup in the marketplace. My R53 came with it and I wanted the OEM sirius so I took it out. Took about 15 Minutes total to remove it without any cutting and when I did have it I could change tracks with steering controls.
There's the Dice unit. I have one on order now, so I can't give a review (but there are several on here already). From my research, it's the only way to get Ipod, Sirius, and steering wheel controls with the stock unit. I paid $199 for it from Crutchfield.
I just finished my Dice Mediabridge install in my 07 R52 yesterday. Well, I am not entirely done--need to hide some wires behind the panels and move the Sirius tuner to the glove. But this was a fairly painless install. There are a few writeups on here with good info. You run the wire from the boot after hooking it into the CD changer connecters. you can easily lift the back seat and hide the cable up the middle of the car if you just want to throw the cable in and almost completely hide it. Others have put more work into it to hide the cable.
There is enough power to charge an iPhone 4S and the Sirius unit. That was one of the reasons I bought it--cleared up 2 of the devices that would be hogging my cig lighter.
For now, I put the unit on my new Euro Parcel Shelf. The Dice is awesome. In my car, the steering wheel controls work well enough, and the song info displays on the radio. For $20 more than the cost of the OEM iPod solution, I also have Sirius, and a 2nd AUX input.

I've got the Dice in and running. I like it alot. The interface is a little wonky (CD buttons are assigned to different purposes, and scrolling through the different playlists/albums/etc one at a time isn't the best) but short of mounting an Ipod in the steering wheel with a heads up display, it's the best available.
Is your OEM mini setup still available?
