Really? '11 nav does not auto night with headlights?

So got my new car. I notice that when the headlights come on the nav system does not switch over to the night mode. I have to go into settings and check might map.

Am I missing a setting?

I looked for this too. My lights are always on (setting) so there should be some other trigger to initiate auto switchover to night mode. Nothing in the manual.

Check out the dimmer switch for the dash lights. Some cars will leave the nav on day screen if the dash light dimmer is on high.

Sure it doesnt dim with the dash mounted brightness adjuster for the fuel guage?

I dont have a nav but im just taking a shot in the dark, cover it w you hand(little knublet in the middle of the dash towards the windshield) and see if it dims.

I was upset when I found this out too. Also annoying is when the nav hides the current time.

MINI Navs do not dim. There is no night mode. Dim the screen if it's too bright.

There is a night mode, it's in the nav settings.

I knew someone would notice that

The warning just came on this morning, our temperature dropped 20 degrees from yesterday morning to this morning so I'm thinking it's because of that.

I just ordered a digital tire pressure gauge, I checked the tire and nothing seems to be wrong with it.

My question was, and I guess I know the answer was if the nav moved to night mode when it was night. My 2008 Nissan Altima's nav changes to the "Night time map" as soon as the headlights come on. My tom tom from 2004 does the same, based on time.

I just find it a wee pain in the *** that at night I have to go and ask for it to change at night.

It is one of a few things I have found that are a little odd. The other being that you will tell me what song is playing along the top of the screen if I am in the "browse" area of FM / AM / and Sat radio, but will not show me the same data when I am in the PRESET part of the radio, you know the part most of us are in all the time.

Count me in among the annoyed. It's hard to believe that that MINI/BMW couldn't manage to do this bit right (and yeah, it's only one of the many quirks).

I far as I know there is no way to set the MINI to auto-switch to night mode.

As far as the song playing not showing up, I agree that is annoying, there is a few UI inconsistencies and that can be very annoying.

BMW doesn't do auto-night mode in ANYTHING. They do this because a lot of times in Germany it's cloudy enough for the auto-headlights to be on but not so dark that you'd be able to see the screen in night mode. I haven't played around with a navi equipped car yet but if the radio keys are programmable as they are in a BMW then do what I did, set one for night mode then push that when you want night mode. No, it's not auto but it's better than a kick in the *** and TBH, I preferred that to the auto-switching in my other cars.

The Nav goes into night mode at sunset. The GPS satellite signal tells it when this occurs.

I stand corrected then...I have a 2010 and I had a 2003. They didn't dim and I do not have a setting now. This is new for 2011.

Mine doesn't. I have the mini connect with Nav, and you have to go into setting and tell it to go into night mode.

Same. Not an issue for me, as I prefer to leave mine in night mode continuously. I like the dark background during the day.

Not the main topic of this thread but YES YES YES to this!! Why shouldn't we be able to see the RDS (FM) or the Artist/Track (XM) information when in the preset display?? What song is this? Oh I have to toggle out of the preset screen and into the Satellite Radio screen to see. Then back into presets if you want to move on to your next preset.

You could stay in the satellite radio screen and just tell it to go to the next preset. Push the button on the steering wheel and say preset 1 and it will go to it.

This is how I use the sat radio. I tried it by saying preset 1 and it takes you to all the presets which does not show you what is playing. That must be the screen that was explained earlier.
