Upgrading Nav OS HELP!

OK, I've searched the internet for a guide to updating my Nav system's OS.
Can a kind soul please help me with this or at least point me in the right direction. I know how d/l torrents, burn .iso images, and all those techy skills needed. I tried burning a v32 .iso file I found online but my system just ends up restarting over and over. Feel free to dumb it down as much as possible and start at the beginning.

Info:
2004 Mini Cooper S
Nav Package (obviously)
OS version: SW4-1/20
MKIV (DVD)

Also, a link to an compatible Nav Map Update would be cool.

The drive is finicky about reading CD-R discs. Try burning another copy at slow speed, or on a different brand of disc, or on a different computer. I've seen cases where people repeated the process 3 or 4 times before getting a disc that works.

You can also purchase the official firmware CD for about $10 from a BMW or MINI dealer, part number 01 59 0 141 891.

Really? 10 dollars? That's much easier than running through these dvd-rs attempting to update the OS. I'm going to give them a call. I can't help but notice you said CD-R. When you update the system do you use dvd r or cd r? I was burning dvds.

Anything on those map packs?

Firmware updates are CD not DVD. As I recall, mode 1 format.

Maps... new discs here or used & pirated discs on eBay.

Success! It turns out it HAS to be burned on CD-R or else it wont work. However, I expected a overhauled menu and/or map but saw just minimal changes. Either way SWEET. Kudos to RKW for the help.

I heard about a secret menu in the NAV system. Can anyone confirm this? If so, can you show me how to access it?

To open the service menu:
1. Open the main menu
2. Select Set
3. Press and hold the MENU button for 10 seconds

What do you mean by "it comes and goes"?

For firmware, the easiest thing to do is purchase the disc from the dealer for $10, as I described in post #2 (if they have the disc handy, it only takes a couple of minutes and they might even update your Nav for free). If you want to download and burn one yourself, look in this forum concerning V32: http://www.xoutpost.com/electronics/navigation-system/ but it's a lot of information to wade through.

There are other issues that could cause a Nav to work poorly. Your car battery may be failing or the laser that reads the map disc may be going bad.
