Greetings, all. First poster here.
About a month ago, I traded up from my 330ci convertible to a dark silver mcs, and the ear-to-ear grin has yet to be erased from my face.
I got the car right off the lot, and since it didnt have the HK stereo, I decided to do some serious upgrading. I had an Alpine 7998 head unit installed, along with the Alpine XM receiver, JL 4 channel amp and MB Quarts all around.
I have the factory nav system, and my questions is this: can it be wired to play through the alpine head unit and/or the amp? I had a great high-end shop do the work, but I have a feeling they haven't have much experience with the Mini (the shop is always full of exotics and Escalades). They wound up installing a small cheap-o speaker in the dash for the nav voice, and I can't control the volume, nor does it lower the stereo volume when giving directions. The shop claims this is the only solution. Given the number of benjamins I just dropped on this system, I find that hard to believe.
Any advice/alternate solutions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Dezeinstein

In addition to utilizing audio interrupt on the head unit, there're a couple of possible solutions to your problem.

1. replace the Nav speaker with one that's volume adjustable (possibly requires a small internal amp)
2. add a custom-built in-line volume control between the Nav audio output and Nav speaker

Both are fairly simple to do.

BTW, congrats on your MCS!!

Ah, a fellow 7998 owner - welcome!

I don't have nav, but there is an audio interrupt wire (pink/black) in the harness of the 7998 that you might be able to use to mute the system when the nav is activated. From the little info I've found on this wire, it would appear that if a ground signal is fed to it, it will mute the head unit output.

It is there to interface with the Alpine/Nokia cellphone junction box, but I see no reason it couldn't be used if you set up a relay to supply the ground signal to it when the nav is used.

You should check with an experienced Alpine/Nav installer though. Best of luck with it.

I too have the 7998 and the DVD Nav System. I howerver haven't had the time to check the signal outputs of the wires, I believe it is brown/yellow is the wire for the voice in the nav. I just kind of tossed everything in. I should have a solution in the next few weeks.

If you end up doing it before I do let us know how it went

Thanks, y'all, for the feedback.
Will be bringing it in this weekend for some fine tuning so I'll let you know how it was resolved.

Hello, I posède a MCS 05 with the GPS of origin. I have just replaced the car radio by alpine 9812. I will like to have the voice of the GPS in the front door. I found wire of the voice of the GPS of origin (2 wire: yellow - brown) on the other hand I do not find the wire of origin of the information of cut of the music.
I installed an additional HP but the sound is not strong enough, can one put an amplifier on these exits?
It a switch is necessary?
Afflicted for the language but I am French. Thank you in advance.

new mini stuff

i have the same ordeal however i was using a sony head unit...they have on their site full adapters to covert this over to get nav sound out of the front passenger door....and as well to mute the radio when a signal comes through.... works quiet well.....however it doesn't cut the mute off right away turns on and off a couple of times.....but this unit will use the att wire on the back of the headunit and cut full sound to the right front speaker and play the nav voice through there....they have alot of neat stuff on there including multi functions steering wheel apaters for any after market radio.....check them out at www.newministuff.com
