Bluetooth.....save your money

It blows!

We have a '11 inside the car, sounds great, on the other end 'not so much'.

Like your holding a tin can 10 feet away from your head. Very disappointing!

I have been told the exact opposite. I have been told that I sound great on the car's bluetooth. I was told it was better than just my Iphone and MUCH better than my bluetooth headset.
Though it does suck when you have your windows open, sunroof open, or even your turn signal on. Yes, they hear everything you hear!

Well the last 3 times I talked to my wife while she was on the car end, I was on the landline and it was pretty rough to listen to her, BUT it is a cabrio (top up)

I have to agree with you, people say that i sound like I am in a cave. There has to be a solution to this problem.

My wife said, "Sounds a crapload better than the Miata!" That's a resounding recommendation... I think...

People are surprised that I'm using the bluetooth in my car when I'm talking to them. Maybe the car's bluetooth amplifier is defective in your car?!

I had read some reviews commenting on the quality, and was even ready to do the whole "move the microphone to the driver's side" thing described in another thread (I don't think that applies to the cabrio). BUT after several conversations with a few different people, they all say I sound great as is. 'Course I have no sunroof, let alone open convertible top, to add wind noise, which might be part of the problem. Just wanted to add my positive experience...

My 2010 S with a roof sucked also. I was not going to get BT on my 2011 but I like the Connect Screen alot and I was told it was better now as they moved the mic and the car is suppose to be 30% quieter. We will see.

The cabrio's microphone is in the top steering column. You will see a bump with some slits in it. So it may help to move closer and talk into the steering wheel.

This would be great, it might be that I have a defective microphone but if your mod does work that would be the answer i was looking for. I would not doubt it is the microphone though cause I have had problems with the reading lamps.

First, regarding MINI connect, unfortunately its not approved in our country by the Automobile Authority dont ask me why, even the dealer is confused .. imagin that the active cruise control wasn't approved too due to frequnecy matter .. after BMW has changed the freq. in the new 2011 5 series, they accepted .. So i guess i will have to go to the dealer in DUBAI for retrofit ...,,

Second, regarding the mic. I will give u the feedback after i recieve my car.

Third, regarding the pics, i have posted some pics in other thread when the car arrived .. but if u r asking after I receing it, then sure i will n it will be in the same thread ( 2011 JCW pictures ) here is the link: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ictures-5.html

I don't have any issues with my bluetooth volume, but I did move the microphone from the passenger side to the driver's side, and that helped.

For all of you here complaining about sound quality of the bluetooh on the end that is not in the car. See this thread.

http:/https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/navigation-and-audio/124952-how-to-move-the-bluetooth-microphone.html/

Before the move people were telling me i was in a cave, shouting, had teh windows open, blowing wind on the mic and a host of other descriptions of bad sound on the receiving end. After moving the microphone to the drivers side they all say it sound good.

So try and move the microphone and I would be willing to bet that most people on the other end will be happy.

This is a very known issue with the MINI. the microphone is placed on the side that the drives in England (they drive on the right side of the car) would be best to use.

Another problem with some peoples cars has been that the wiring to the microphone has not been plugged in well enough.

I've read about relocating the mic to the driver side from the passenger side placement in the overhead console (the DIY FAQ is on MA) but I've not had complaints on either end with my 2011 MCCS... factoring in that we don't expect awesomeness from a speaker-based phone system in any environment.

Up the console in front of the map lights. Seems that the factory puts the mic in the right side in most of the cars, where in left-hand drive countries it should be in the left spot.

Well on our '11 the mic is on the steering column right next to the tac. It's been moved.

As for those who thinks the quality is good on the receiving end have you been on the receiving end?

I have, and the quality was very tough to swallow, I'm not looking for 100% quality, it's a mic I get it and don't expect the sun moon and stars, but at least tolerable would be good, but who knows maybe I have a bad mic so next trip to the dealer I'll have it checked.

I'm told I sound like that only when I talk too loud when using the bluetooth. Try talking in a softer "inside" voice. OMG I sound like my Mom!

I am on my second MCS hardtop, the bluetooth sound quality has been abysmal at best, and is normally all but un-usable. I rely heavily on my phone to conduct business and tend to travel a lot voia my MINI, so I have abandoned using it altogether in favor of a Jawbone earpiece. I have done the mic placement swap to no avail.

Non-critical phone use might be acceptable, but having my customers complaining that they can't hear me isn't. I am with the OP and won't bother paying for bluetooth in the future.

Also, the iPod integration is a joke. The lack of functionality (ever try to scroll to the upper alphabet on a heavily loaded iPod?) is completely embarrassing. At least give us a way to scroll through the alphabet rather than alphabetically through each artists name.
