XM Tuner with Stock Stereo Acting Wierd.

My '05 MCS, with standard stock audio system, has the XMD-1000/Blitzsafe setup, which I bought from eas. Most times it works fine, but occasionally when listening to XM, the display will briefly read "LOADING" or "UPDATING" and then it will go to the "Preview Channel". Once this happens, it usually cannot be returned to the channel I was listening to...like I somehow "lost" the XM subscription, until I shut the car down, and restart it at a later time (simply turning the radio off and on again doesn't fix it). ...It's not a matter of having lost the satellite signal...it has the signal, but it just keeps going straight back to "preview", as if the tuner was never activated.

I've had several XM and Sirius setups in cars before (including an Alpine head unit, with another XMD-1000/Alpine adapter-combo), but I've never seen this happen on any of those.

I called "eas", and they at first dismissed it as being a reception issue. When I persisted that it wasn't, they had no idea, saying they'd have to look at it in person. (I'm in NY, they're in CA...dead end. Frustrated, I politely thanked them for their help.)

I haven't called XM yet, as I don't believe it to be a problem with their service (unless I'm wrong and the signal needs to be "re-sent"...I doubt it, because it only happens occasionally). Has anyone seen or heard of this problem with these units? And if so, what was the resolution?

BTW, before anyone asks, my antenna placement is on the roof, like it should be, and my XM subscription is in good standing.

I have XM on two of my other cars - the '07 Outback has it built into the radio and never encountered this. I have seen this happen on my XM Sportster add-on to my F350 truck. I just replaced the XM with a new color model and haven't had an issue since then. BTW, if you have an XM subscription and go to their site to buy a new replacement, you save bunches.

It doesn't act up too often, and when it does...I just learned to live with it. It seems the XMD tuner doesn't power down when you turn off the radio. It is always on with the ignition, so when this happens, I have to pull over and shut the engine down and restart it, for it to reset. LOL.

I have the same setup...
About once every 4 months I must reauthuthize it...sometimes it seems to be after it is parked for a few days....maybe due to the reauthrozion system or something if it not on to "see it"?
Other than that works fine.

I'm wondering if it's the Blitzsafe or the XMD tuner. I'm planning to upgrade to an aftermarket stereo system which will include a new Alpine head unit. I'll be using the same XMD tuner, but with the required ALP100 Alpine adapter in place of the Blitzsafe. That should narrow it down.

Yeah, maybe...the old remote tuner is kinda dated...so I just considred it to be an annoyance...it sometimes comes back like your....but just go to the website..."refresh radio" and in 2 minutes, all done.
Newer radio's display much more info...and have many more features...but I like the clean clutter free install of the blitzsafe/oem connection....
Now if we could just get the old programming from the pre merger days back...
