I have a few questions about my future stereo setup (alpine pdx-5)
OK I have read as much of the stereo threads as I can (man they are massive long reads), and also please understand I am not a stereo nerd. I understand the basic's and I guess that's it. I don't need a crazy boomy setup, but i definitely need something better than this stock one. I like a little bit of punch bass and some nice mids.
I have a few questions that I have tried to find via search, but I get so many results back it makes it very hard to find what I am asking so here goes, and i am sorry if this stuff has been answered over and over.
option 1:
1. Will the following setup below work?(see embedded jpg)
2. Basically if I run this setup I do not need to worry about anything other than tapping into the HU and running some sort of line out all the way back to the amp for a signal.
3. where is the best place to tap into the stereo for this "line out" drop?
4. If the answer to # 3 is the x9331 connector then I need to make sure I tap into the signal that is feeding the stock front speakers right? I say this because the stock front speakers are not filtered out below 100hz where the rear are filtered out below 100hz. If I tapped into the rear wouldn't I effectively be prefiltering out anything below 100hz before it even gets to my amp therefore losing all potential of sub-bass?
5. Should I even bother with the 4" speaker or just get good 6.5" ones with tweeters in them.

Option 2:
- skip the pdx 5 amp and everything in the picture
- replace all the speakers in the car and then run them off the stock HU
- Do the front / Rear channel swap
- buy a subwoofer and just some little amp to push it, or even one of those boss 880 thingys that is all in one (powered off the aux outlet in back), tap into the rear 6x9's for a line out to run to that subwoofer/amp.
Bonus question for audiophiles that know a lot about car stereo stuff
- Think I will be safe running the front speakers like that? Doesn't this effectively drop my ohms down to 2 for each one of those channels? Their specs say it can do, just wondering if anyone in NAM land has run this same or similar setup?

you have the right idea but here are my suggestions
Dont do a 4" in front in top. Do 6.5 component setup with tweeter up top in a bracket it will sound 100x better
x9331 is best place to tap and use the front speaker feed, to a quality line out converter then rca's into the amp
another amp option is the new kenwood xrs5 IMO its better then the pdx5

penta has the right idea on the front speakers. Go components rather than a 4" and 6.5" as that will cause all kinds of mid-range problems.
Either way, adding amp and speakers or changing speakers and adding sub with amp are good ways to get started. It is more up to what you have money to do.
As for the suggestion of the kenwood amp i would have to disagree. Personally I find them very bright, but that is just my opinion. If you can go to a car stereo shop and listen to them both.
Mounting of the amp can be done in the back of the car behind the passenger side panel. There is a thread on that here some somewhere. Or if you do not have an OEM SAT radio box you could put the amp under the passenger seat. see the pictures in my gallery and you will see a PDX-5 there.
Yes use the front only outputs at the X9331 connector and split them to run the four inputs on the PDX-5.
If you go with component speakers you can possibly put the crossover in the door armrest/pull. This way you only need to run one set of wires into the door from the amp.
Any component set should work well with the PDX-5.

We have the PDX-5 in ours running Alpine components in the front and 6.5" Coaxials in the back. With a 10" Kicker CVT sub. It will blow you out of the car. I liked the PDX-5 so much I put another one in my truck.
As for the installation I had it done somewhere so I can't help with that. Other than to tell you they mounted the amp to the back of the rear seat which I wasn't crazy about.

Thanks for the info.
Why wouldn't I just run from x9331 into like one of those speaker wire to rca converters, and just run that stereo rca's back to the main rca imputs on the pdx? Why do I need to split them into 4 high level inputs? Just curious. I've seen your post on a lot of audio threads so you seem to typically have a reason to your methods.
Thanks,.
