Factory Satellite Antenna

Where is the factory satellite antenna located in a 2010 MCS?

From what I have read in another thread I'm lead to believe that it is incorporated some how into the regular radio antenna?

If so...my real question is does changing out the stock antenna mast for a stubby after market change satellite reception in any significantly negative way?

Does anyone have experience with this one way or the other?

Searching will find you answers to all of these questions but in the mean time

No it is a separate antenna in the roof top antenna

changing to a stubby antenna does not affect the SAT reception

Two things to note

1. On the 2010 models they have gone to eliminating some of the wireing harnesses if the items are not ordered from the factory. I.E. the OEM alarm can not be retrofitted as the wiring harness is missing if it is not ordered from the factory with the alarm.

It has not that i know of been verified if the sat antenna and wiring are in the 2010 models if sat was not ordered with the vehicle. This is something you can check fairly easily though.

2. The sat antenna is a pink connector under the passenger seat. Just remember one thing if you remove the seat make sure you disconnect the battery first. If you do not you WILL get an Air Bag Fault light. And this at this time can only be reset by the dealer.

shatzy62...thanks so much for taking the time to reply. Having participated in a number of other forums I "get" how it can be tiring when people ask the same questions multiple times without using the search to see that it has been answered before.

Actually i'm pretty good with the search function and have answered dozens of questions for myself already on other topics. I spent quite a while searching for this one and surprisingly never found it...lots of good stuff on how to install after market satellite...including the tid-bits you posted on the bottom about where the wiring is under the seat...and disconnecting the battery etc....but nothing to my specific question.

Thanks again!

search here can sometimes be very difficult unless you have the exact wording correct. I find using the site search function of google much more useful.

Agreed...I discovered that to be true as well...and now if you search in google and include the word "factory" in the search terms...this thread comes to the top of the list!...instead of all the ones on retro installations...

The sat antenna is indeed in the 2010 model, I found I could reach it by removing the four screws on the plastic cover under the passenger seat. I was not able to grab hold of it from the front, but in back I was able to move it forward enough to expose it up front for easy access.

Yep it def is there in the 2010. I didn't have to remove the seat , just the 2 screws which hold the black Plastic DSC box under the passenger seat ( For DSC Equipped cars) and it is right there in a foam insert just waiting to be used lol. As Jlanemini said you have to approach it from the back of the seat and run it out from under the plastic cover.

A few good pics and write up's of xm installs are here:

I have a 2010 Clubman and my MINI does NOT have the black plastic cover on the passenger side. Here is what I did...

1 disconnected the Battery
2 Removed the seat, (4 Torx Screws and unclipped the 1 wire harness)
3 Removed the LONG plastic piece along the door (Kick Panel) it pops out with clips
4 NOW I was able to lift the carpet to find the styrofoam block with the SAT wire in it.
5 I cut a slit in the carpet under the seat track (track closest to console)
6 I was able to get my SAT wire under the center console and then shoot it straight across to underneath the seat. where it connected with the pink connector.
7 Why did I cut the carpet...welll it is difficult to get hands arms from the door to the center console. The slit got me half the way under the seat and half the wat into the center console. just made it easier and the cut is now under and parallel to the seat track.
