Adding Navigation

Maybe this is an idiotic question, but I didn't get the Nav when I ordered my 2009 Cooper S and now I really wish I had.

Does anyone know if it can be added after being built? I don't see it listed in my dealership's parts website, like satellite radio is.

I'm guessing that it would not be an easy or low cost mod.

I'd guess like everything else in the car, even if you swapped it in which I'm sure would require considerable effort and cost, you'd still have to get the car reprogrammed to accept it.

Well there are harness changes that need to be made which means the whole dash had to come out. Also the whole radio head unit has to be changed.

probably 20+ hours of work plus parts. probably around 7k-8k all said and done. If you could get a dealer to do it. But I doubt you could find anyone to do that.

it would be much easier to buy a garmin, tom tom etc.

It is actually a fairly easy mod. You remove all four wheels and replace the rest.

I agree with the others that retrofitting a factory navigation unit would cost a fortune. I'm thinking you should look into portable navigation units such as Garmin, Tom Tom, Magellan, etc. MINI USA even sells a "post factory" type unit which is a re-badged Garmin. Plenty of posts of various ways of mounting these units.

Yes, but it isn't the GPS I'm actually interested in. It's the improved display for the music that I really want. Sadly there is no after-market for that.

Guess I'm SOL.

What advanced dispaly for music are you looking for. Yes the MINI NAv is slighlty better than the non NAV but is still not anything like some of the aftermarket devices for iPods.

What information are you looking for from what item?

It was actually quite easy and cheap to add navigation!

Yes, really late reply.

MrTIer, you're hilarious

schatzy62, I want to be able to see more than 2 lines of data!

Does anyone have pictures of their Nav. screen showing music/iPod info?

If you are still thinking about converting to the factory Nav, this thread has someone who was planning to attempt it: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...rofit-r56.html

rkw, I would never attempt to do the modification myself! I would probably somehow manage to make my wheels fall off!
