I phone / Smart phone

Hi, I just got my 2010 JCW (photos to follow in a few days). I have the hands free smart phone option. And I have an Apple I phone 3G, I thought I read on this site and maybe the MINI USA site. That you could access you songs from the I phone and use the phone function from the cradle. However it does not show up on the radio like an I pod wood. I was at the dealer when we tried it yesterday. They thought it would work as well.
I guess I could just hook up my I pod as well under the center stack. Any one else been able to make this work?
Ron

Two things you need to take into consideration.

1. You must have the correct snap in for the arm rest to have the phone work the way you want. There are two different types. One is for phone only, the other is for both music and phone. the part numbers can be found here.

2. Is the car really set up for smart phone. I.E. is it programed properly, or are all the correct modules physically in the car.

Thanks for the info,
1. I have the Snap in # 6NF 84 212 181 043. I got this # off of this forum.

2. The car was ordered with the Smart phone and arm rest ECT.
As far has I know it was set up by my MA.
I guess if I have to use my I pod it could be worse.

Your MA would have no idea if the cars software was programed properly. There are a number of computer modules in the car that have variable programing depending on teh options installed. I.E. you can not jsut put the switch in for the rear fog lights. It needs to be programed into the footwell module to work. The programing forthe smart phoen would need to be checked by the serivce department and normally would take them an hour or so (maybe more).

Ok thanks, It's a service appointment for me. The phone also does not charge while in the arm rest. I will add it to my list.

If the phone does not charge int he arm rest then it sounds like a cable may be unplugged or that the snap in may be bad.

Have your dealer check your build. Make sure you have option 6NF and not 6NE.

Could be. The first cradle I had for a Razr phone didn't charge. It was bad from the factory.

I looked at the box my Adapter came in it is part # 84-21-2158-683 for I phone 3GS.

I told the dealer to order Part # 84-21-2151-043 for a I phone 3G. I even had my MA check with the parts department when I was in the finance office at the dealer to make sure they had the correct part for my 3G I phone. As well has an e-mail to my MA 3. weeks before the car came in. And both times they said we have the correct part. So my question is, Is this why my phone does not charge and play music?
