iPhone and Craven Speed iPod Mount?

Does the Craven Mount work with an iPhone (3G)? I need the iPhone mounted up for navigation (I use Navagon GPS App) and not hendered. I don't want to use a windshild mount. I bought one of the cup holder mounts but not pleased with the results (look or location). Does anyone use the Craven Mount with an iPhone and could you offer opinions (fit, finish, practicality, look without iPhone, etc...) and pics?

I have one, but haven't tried it yet. I got one of their last W mounts to use with a ScanGaugeII. Ordered the iPhone mount to use for Dynolicious. I have an iPhone 3G. I let you know after I try it out. It is supposed to fit the iPhone 3G.

For music, I use a cup holder mount with Apple Universal Dock.

Please post some pics from different angles and your thoughts. Are you installing it soon (next couple of days)?

I'll try to post a photo sometime Thursday. Seems good. You need one of their tibia extensions to get it out from behind the wheel. I borrowed the one I use for the ScanGaugeII for the photo. I need to order another.

A quick and dirty shot.

Doesn't show you the mount, but gives you an idea about possible position. It seems quite stable. Haven't driven with it, though. Seats are not in the car at the moment.

Thanks,
Aesthetically how does it look and integrate in the cockpit with and without the iPhone installed (I know subjective question)? Is it the mount an universal fit or only iPhone specific?

EDIT: Looking on the site I see two different setups.

1) FlexPod R56 Gauge Mount System w/iPhone cradle Product code (SKU): CRMC-0001-A for $105
2) iPod Cradle w/bracket Product code (SKU): CRMC-0014 $100

Which do you have and do you know the differences?

Product code (SKU): CRMC-0014 $55.00

You must have added the bracket to get $100.

I believe it fits a variety of iPods.

You will also need an extension. I believe I have a tibia.

As for you subjective question, it looks fine to me. Without the iPhone it looks like an empty holder. It is black anodized aluminum, and goes well with the rest of the dash.

They have made an iPhone "kit" so you just need to place one order. Just ordered one from Kellen and he said it would ship today (fast service/shipping since they are east coast and it's almost 5PM). Should have it early next week.

Sure, you can use my photo, but it includes the tibia (it is a tibia, isn't it?) that comes with the ScanGaugeII holder. Does the iPhone kit include the tibia?

I can take better photos when I've gotten around to ordering another tibia, and have the seats back in the car.

First I emailed Kellen asking about the different brackets for a iPhone setup. When I talked to him on the phone they had just put up the iPhone kit (I assume at least partly in response to my email) and the description was not complete. I remember him saying it came with a $18 bracket so it would not be mounted behind the steering wheel. This sounds like the same bracket you have.

Yes, that is the right price for the tibia.

Thanks for the photo. We'll get that up and that should help the page make more sense.

Not being able to swivel for horizontal viewing is a deal killer to me. If you run a Nav app it really needs that for proper viewing...seems like a simple adjustment to factor in...

The design will not allow for "simple adjustment". I have a Window Seat mount I use in my Explorer and and have been using Navagon since it came out and spent much time both ways. While horizontal does have the "coolness" factor I strongly disagree about it being the "proper viewing" for Navigation. I much prefer and use vertical (in my Explorer also where I have a choice). I like the depth of screen showing where I'm going and not off to the sides where I'm not interested.

Having said that I would like to see a newly designed holder made of plastic instead of metal that could also rotate.

Some black plex, acetone...
Shouldn't be difficult.

We are on top of it

We are all over this one. Give us another week or two for messing with the prototype. Then we will have a Black Plex iPhone mount that rotates. Do you need it to rotate back and fourth on a whim, or can it be set one way or the other?

It looks like it will be less expensive than the aluminum mount too.

It should be able to rotate easily, but be secure when needed. Different apps work better in different orientations. So, if one uses a variety of apps, they may need to go back and forth.

It needs to be able to hold a position securely because some apps need to be calibrated to a certain position. Rev requires this for G-sensors. It and Dynolicious must be secure to get accurate G-force readings.

I use iData Mobile for shopping lists, and as a storehouse for miscellaneous information I might need to access. The iPod app plays music. Dynolicious is fun for recording the parameters of a drive. So, I'm likely to be switching apps. The easier it is to change orientation--while still having the ipiPhone held rigidly--the better.

My audio install is getting close to completion, and my MCS should be on the road again very soon. I would be happy to beta test adaptors for you. As you know, I already have the current version.

I'm very interested in this as well. Trying to decide between that craven mount and proclip, however if the craven mount can be rotated I think I would be pushed towards purchasing it given its positioning for GPS use.
