Importance of Speaker Ohms?

So I'm looking to replace all the stock HiFi front speakers.

I've heard the Mini has 2 Ohm speakers. All I've been able to find is 4 Ohm speakers. Does it matter that much?

I was looking at these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Polk-Audio-DB650...d=p3286.c0.m14

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Thanks in advance.

Either of those will be fine. Just if you are going to use them all disconnect the tweeter in the 4" so that you do not get over bearing highs as there is a tweeter in the pillar as well.

The OEM amp is designed to work on speakers as low as two ohms but the reality of the matter is that 4 ohms actually work better. Going up to 6 or 8 would definitely not be appropriate although they would work just not as well.

Over the frequency range many aftermarket two ohm speakers can drop down to as low as 1/2 ohm impedance an up to 3-4 ohms impedance. The MINI amp really does not like this. On the ohter hand most 4 ohm speakers over the frequency range will only drop to just below 3 ohms and up to just over 5 ohms. which means the amp is not trying to drive more current than it can handle to put out.

The oem speakers are 4 ohms. Use the 4 ohm speakers you found. What equals 2 ohms is the load that the amp is driving by combining certain speakers.

Thanks schatzy62,
I was planning on using the component tweeters in place of the stock ones in the pillars. Should I replace them with the Polk or just leave them?

Except that is only in the Standard system. The HiFi actually has 8 channels to drive the 10 speakers as follows:

Ch1 Front Right Mid and Tweeter
Ch2 Front Left Mid and Tweeter
Ch3 Front Right Woofer
Ch4 Front Left Woofer
Ch5 Rear Right Woofer
Ch6 Rear Left Woofer
Ch7 Rear Right Tweeter
Ch8 Rear Left Tweeter

So as the mid is 4 ohms and the tweeter is 4 ohms yes that is correct except that the tweeter has a capacitor inline with it so that make it infinate ohms to DC. Now to frequencies of 20hz to 20khz the impedance on most tweeters is in the range of 17-45 ohms. So even with that the parallel is still just below 4 ohms.

What I would do is to use the 6.5 in the lower door the tweeter that comes with the 6.5 in the a-pillar.

Now for the 4" you have shown us it has a tweeter as well. And you do not want two tweeters for each side in the front. Disconnect the tweeter on the 4" and then install that in the upper door.

This will give you the following compliment

6.5" lower door
4" upper door with tweeter disabled
1" tweeter in the a-Pillar

I agree! Make sure you seal up the woofer well with gasket tape when installing or your bass will suffer!

From what I understand, the H/K's are 2 ohm and stock are 4

This is the 2nd Gen forum where for 07,08, 09 coops, 08, 09 clubman, and 09 cabiro there is no such thing as H/K

Now the H/K on the Gen1's may be 2 ohms but not having them on these cars make it a non issue.

As for the New 2010's there have been reports that they are bringing back the H/K system but there is no actual proof of that since no one has one yet.
