Navigation & Audio base justaCooper ... want to move to components cheaply.
base justaCooper ... want to move to components cheaply.
Hey .. I must be a super newbie, but a brief searching I can't really find what I'm looking for.
I want to run Phoenix Gold RSD65cs 6.5" Component Speaker System. I want these to be the only speakers running. Yes, that means I will not have rear speakers. I want to keep the stock HU (because it looks cute and I want to keep it simple).
1. What is the cheapest Line-Out-Converter that is of decent quality? I noticed the JL Cleansweep CL441dsp. It also takes a line-out signal (iPod) bypassing the Mini's own HU. Sweet. But is this the cheapest solution?
2. What is the cheapest amp that is of decent quality? I will not be installing an amp in the future, I don't want to take up space in the already small boot.
3. Is there space in the base base justaCooper to mount the tweeters/crossovers? Or would I need to do any cutting/modding?
Cheers

NEW QUESTION
I am planning to purchase a Garmin Nuvi 265WT. I want to (semi)permanently mount it to the bottom left of my windsheild. Has anyone attempted to hardwire this to the battery/fuse box so I don't have the annoying cig.lighter adapter cable dangling everywhere? I understand the 265WT has an FM antenna built into this cable ... I wonder if it will receive fine when it's hidden into the dash/hood hardwired to the battery.

Thanks for all the replies. I will not have PDC.
With the David Navone LOC, will I be able to control the volume from the stock HU?
Are there places to mount the tweeters or will I have to fabricate new mounts?

The JLCleansweep is a lot more expensive and does all kinds of sound equalizing.
Crossovers - depending on size they may or may not fit in the door cavity, many people seem to have taken them and mounted them in the door pocket, i have not seen pictures of this from anyone but I personally would not want to see them like that. I mounted mine in the space under the passenger seat along with the amp.
Yes, it has no control over the volume in that regard. It is adjustable for setting the speaker level to line level change but that is all.
schatzy62 and everyone else, you guys are SUPER helpful!
I'm looking at the Phoenix Gold Ryval V752 2ch amp as it has decent reviews, matches the Phoenix Gold components, and CHEAP. It is shallower than the Alpine PDX series, so it should fit under the seat as well.
So just to be absolutely clear, I can still retain GOOD QUALITY sound with volume control from stock with this setup? (sorry for sounding like a broken record, I just wanna make sure it's not too good to be true!)
//edit: I just noticed how difficult it was to remove the rear speakers. I think I'm just gonna disconnect them .. no point pulling all that crap out just to rip them out.

I thought the DSC was down there on 08+ and thus preventing the usage of the space.

It is but with some of the smaller amps there may be enough room to add the amp.

Over the last 20 years of owning cars and juicing up the sound system. the biggest lesson I learned is "don't waste your money on cheap components". You will surely end up replacing or fixing them. Save your money and buy good quality parts/components. They will last longer and give you better performance. I am a big Alpine fan. Only had one issue with an amp and alpine fixed it while it was under factory warranty with no hassle. Make sure you read reviews on the overall quality of the manufacturer. Is phoenix known for good quality or just inexpensive components? the point i'm trying to make is, don't hurry into something just because "you need to have it". make sure you spend your money wisely. I've bought and been burned by buying crap before. good luck!
