I am going to start my install in the morning...

I am going to bring my MCS (stock stereo), up to my brothers shop in the morning to begin the "process".

First on the agenda is replacing the front speakers with some high end Pioneer separate's. From there we will decide on if we need to add an amplifier to the front stage, of if the factory deck will be OK.

I have never heard these speakers before but they come highly recommended.

If i can find a camera i will take some pictures.

Rear 6x9's will go away....and may not be replaced with anything...i am not a rear fill kind of guy...we will cross that bridge as well after the front stage is in place.

Subwoofer....no idea....it will be small...maybe an 8" very high end driver powered by a small amp.

This will be as pure sounding as possible and with as few drivers as possible..i am hoping for 5 total.

Speakers are mounted....but we are running into a little snag. Looking for a location for the external crossover, and wondering why there are 2 sets of speaker wires running into the door.

I know about the regular non-hifi systems...

Just unplug the upper 3.5 inch speaker and throw it away. Both speakers play full range and are wired in paralell loading the
stock headunit at 2 ohms. If you have a choice get a set of 2 ohm aftermarket components - like Infiniti Kappas for 60% off from your BestBuy store to get the few extra DB out of the stock unit - Honestly I dont really need aftermarket amp because of this.

A great option for your sub since you are going with pioneer stuff is pioneer's flat 10". You should be able to form an incredibly small box to fit where the stock trunk toolkit goes and I think they handle about ~2-400 watts. i run this with a tiny Pioneer mono amp under the front passenger seat and it slams!

Shallow Subs - I have TS-SW251:

Mono Amps - I have GM-D7400M but the space under the seat could fit a LOT larger if you need like a 4chan:

Thanks....thats kind of what we figured...so we have decided thatthe HU is just going to be able to power these speakers effectively.

So we are going to ad an amp another day. The install is comign along great, and i will put some pictures up soon.

I will also look at the subs...thanks!!!

You should check the speaker signals before installing the crossovers. The signals may already be filtered. I'm not positive about the standard system, but the HIFI lower door speaker gets mostly bass. So, connecting a crossover may not be a good idea.

I'm under the impression that the head unit of the standard audio does a fair amount of filtering for specific speakers.

The reason they do this is that the door is then set up for the HiFi system which runs a seperate channel to each speaker int he door. This way the door wiring is the same for both the stock and the HiFi and they change the main harness wiring instead. There are other parts of the main car harness that are different for the Standard vs. HiFi system as well.

in the non-hifi stereo the bottom corner door speakers run full range. I have no clue about the hi-fi systems.
