Armrest Bluetooth Comfort System w/Smartphone Prep help needed!

I just bought the bluetooth comfort with smartphone prep, and the iPhone 3G adapter for my 3G (not 3G S). Took delivery last month. The instruction manual is pretty barebones. I snapped the adapter in, and it makes a "clicking" sound so I have no reason to think I've installed it incorrectly. When I put the phone in there it charges but nothing else-- no "error message" (which you're supposed to get) or anything else. I went back and double checked on the website, and this is indeed supposed to make calls and play music, not just charge!

I have tried asking the parts department of my dealership and calling MINI, but no one seems to know anything about this (which is very frustrating: they sell it for $$$ on the configurator, and no one is trained in or has even heard of it? give me a break!). My dealership wants me to come in so they can look at it, but since they profess ignorance about the smartphone prep and aren't given more documentation than I am, I'm loathe to drive more than an hour out of my way with no guarantee that they'll even know what to do when they see it. Anyone had experience with this? What might I be doing wrong?

I should add that when I plug the iPhone to the wired part in the front dash, everything works (syncs/charges/plays/calls) fine.

How do you know it's not working? Can you use your MFSW to select a track to play, if you choose AUX from the input sources?

If you have NAVI, you should be able to press the button that looks like a man on your MFSW and say "Dial (name)" where name is a entry in your iPhone, and it should begin to dial. Now you may not hear much as the volume may be very low, so continue to turn up the volume.

Can you also tell us what part number of the iPhone cradle you purchase/snapped into the center arm rest. There are two of them, one for the older EDGE (Gen1) iPhone, and one for the 3G (Gen2) which I think people have said works on the 3GS (Gen 3) iPhone.

The address book sync is actually part of the Bluetooth system and is separate from the SmartPhone prep- that should work either way.

I think you're on the right track here- the 3G and 3GS part numbers are:

No Smartphone Integration (6NE):
84 21 2 151 038

With Smartphone Integration (6NF):
84 21 2 151 043

If that's correct, it's possible you're missing the SmartPhone integration. You should have option code 6NF on the options/order confirmation sheet.

Thanks for your advice so far. I checked my order confirmation, I got smartphone prep, and the cradle they sent was iPhone 2nd gen (I have an iPhone 2nd gen).

When I plug the phone in it makes the same sound the iPhone makes when it connects via USB to my computer. The AUX option is chosen (and it doesn't say AUX is empty), but I see nothing on my screen. No buttons that I press on the dash or the MFSW results in sound or display on dash. If I try pressing buttons on the iPhone, it will play music through the iPhone speakers.

Any more ideas?

Note there are two types of adapters for the iPhone 3G. One for the NON Smart Prep and one for the Smart Prep. I do not know the numbers off the top of my head but i know they are different. I would check to make sure you have the correct one.

Also with the phone in the proper cradle for smart phone prep you can NOT have anything connected to the USB port in the dash. If there is a usb device of any kind in the USB port of the dash it will disable the USB connection to the smart phone.

EDIT:
Just realized the part numbers are in the post by nicknbecka

So you're saying there are two snap in adapters for the iPhone 3G, one is for cars with smartphone integration, and one is for cars without smartphone integration? And since I have smartphone integration, I should own (6NF): 84 21 2 151 043?

Did you pair your iPhone to the car via Bluetooth so you could make calls?

For audio source did you select "iPod"? Having the iPhone in the cradle is the same as plugging it in to the USB/Audio cable.

My phone is paired with the car. When I plug it in the bottom of the dash (near the cupholders) it works fine for making calls and playing music.

For audio source, when the phone is in the armrest cradle, there is not an "iPod" option. (There is an iPod option when the phone is plugged into the dash, however.) All I see is Tuner, CD, USB, and Aux. It says CD and USB are empty, which they should be. When I click on Aux, I see a blank screen aside from volume control.

I would go back to the dealer. Something is not right.

Do all the snap in adapters get ordered through the dealer? I have called my dealer several times and get no response. I want to order a snap in adapter for my car that has the phone integration. It's an HTC Fuze or AT&T Fuze.

I searched the forums and could find no matches or answers. So please don't FLAME me.

Thanks.

Hey! I'm not that mean, am I?

Sorry, but as far as I know, there's no snap-in for the Fuze. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but it's unlikely.
