For those who added a sub with Hi-Fi...

Can you describe how this improved sound. I am concerned that adding a sub would just put bass on top of crap. My understanding is that the HIFI amp can't be touched, so I am wondering how this helps things. 2 days into messing with the speaker upgrade, I've already had it. I just want a decent stereo.

I got in my wife's prius tonight and was so jealous of her stock system. The upgraded speakers I put in are better, but now there are tons of highs and the lows are still crap. What's a guy gotta do to get some halfway decent sound out of this thing!

Much of this is covered in many other threads, and there is a site guide line to read and search before asking the same question over again.

Now in this thread you have not told us what you have done so i will assume that you have changed all the speakers in the front and the rear. I do not know what the drivers you put in are but that can also make a big big difference.

I and others should not have to search your other threads to figure out what you did so that we can help you. I do not know what the drivers you put in are but that can also make a big big difference.

For the short story.

The HiFi amp must remain in place, it is connected to the central computer and that can not be upgraded unless the amp is seen.

The amp has 8 channels as stated in this thread:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...tem-specs.html

This then brings us to how the amp actually works. Again short story - you must disconnect the tweeters in the rear as they are driven form a separate amp channel and the rear woofer is driven with a almost full range signal it is cut off to the low end some but there is no cut off for high freqs thus if the rear tweeter is still connected then you are effectively driving two tweeters with power. This will cause the highs freqs to over power the low freqs.

As for the fronts the the mid driver is driven with full range. The woofer is driven with Low freqs below 250hz and the tweeter has a capacitor on it to remove freqs below about 2000hz (this varies on the date of the car).

Now people always way that 2 ohm speakers are better than 4 ohm speakers but that is not really the case. The HiFi amp can handle two ohm speakers but certain brands are not going to work where others will, it all depends on the actual impedance (ohms) the amps sees at different frequencies. Just reading the DC ohms in not enough. The amp will drive 4 ohm speakers better than it will the 2 ohm most of the time. With the 4 ohm speakers there is actually less stress on the amp.

So although the new speakers will help the sound and improve it greatly it is not the be all of the situation.

Next time don't answer instead of acting like a mom. I won't get into the searches I've done, but I did do them. I think many will agree that the search mechanism is not perfect and can often times lead to a large thread where posts go back and forth over the validity of it's content. When it comes to car audio, I've found this hard to track as I don't have a great deal of knowledge on it.

This is what I hate about forums....people always want to discipline others. No one forced you to read or respond. God forbid you should ever ask a question that someone has asked before.

P.S. I just answered a question over on the Clubman forum that has already been asked before. You can go get them next!

I did not attack you personally so why do you have to.
Read guideline # 2

You seem to be asking for this type of info with your question "Can you describe how this improved sound."

There is a wealth of knowledgeable people here. But having to answer the same question over and over and over just wastes our time.

I make sure I Search, Read and Re-Read everything for hours even days if I have to. Then if I still have not found the answer I first appologize and ask for giveness for possibly posting the question again. I then make sure I put all the pertinent data needed in my request to get the answer I need. Something you did not do.

Why be so nasty. This type of attitude makes people not want to answer your questions. I will not do that though. I will assist you in getting answers to your questions.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

To assist you even farther and you answer these questions

What speakers have you installed if any?

If you added speakers did they come with crossovers, and did you install those as well?

These threads will also help to answer some of your questions:

It filled in the bass missing from the rear speakers.

What brand/model speakers did you use?

I went with Infinity Reference speakers. I guess the thing I am struggling with is that right now the highs are piercing. The bass is there but the speakers sound like crap. While I get that adding a sub would give me more bass, is it just covering up the crappy bass coming from the other speakers? I don't want to just have boom without clarity. Also, because you don't want to muck with the HIFI amp, my concern is that even with the sub, I would still have this bad amp setup for the other speakers....

Infinity's tend to be on the bright side. That helps them with clarity over road noise, but many people like a warmer sound. I'm not happy with the remote tweeters (Kappa 60.7cs) I put in the A-pillars, but it might be because I couldn't use the Infinity crossovers. Or, it might be my ears (too many live concerts in the late 1960s).
