RTTI -- working?

Hi All!

Just got my Clubbie. Have a quick question about the RTTI. The information is provided by Total Traffic, at least that's what my MA told me. Does anyone know if that's still correct?

My bigger question is, why doesn't it work in Canada? TTN shows coverage for Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Montreal -- the data sent out should be, hypothetically, the same, correct? MINI USA told me in no uncertain terms that it's a different kind of data and my car will NOT decode that information from a Canadian station.

Anyone have thoughts on this? If it's the same kind of info being sent out, why won't my car show it?

Thanks!

Are you trying to get this on your am/fm radio or your NAV unit?

GPS units that contain the ability to use the RTTI or TTN signal can re-route you around traffic problems or accidents.

I am not sure if the MINI Integrated NAV unit can decode these signal or not.

I have the NAVI, and I noticed in the setup menus, that there are many channels to select from to receive RTTI. Maybe you need to change the channel to see if you can pick up RTTI on another channel.

Just a thought.

Updated: Are you sure that TTN provide traffic for Canada? This URL for Clear Channel TTN (which I assume is what you're referring to) only makes reference to US coverage.
See URL = (http://totalradius.com/index.php/total_traffic_network)

Updated Again: I then found this site which makes reference to Toronto (http://www.totaltraffic.com/Coverage...d-8fe1ffd48039), but on the map, it says:

City: Toronto, Canada Hours of Operation: 6am-7pm Weekdays Radio Station List: CIRV 88.9, CHIN 100.7 City: Toronto, Canada Hours of Operation: 6am-7pm Weekdays Radio Station List: CIRV 88.9, CHIN 100.7 City: Toronto, Canada
Hours of Operation: 6am-7pm Weekdays
Radio Station List: CIRV 88.9, CHIN 100.7

So, see if you can configure RTTI to use those two FM channels to receive your RTTI. I'm also curious what it means by Hours of Operation. Does that mean you only will receive RTTI during those hours, and not 24x7?

In my Convertible manual, how to configure RTTI if you have NAV starts on page 132. By default it's set for AUTO, but it will also show the other channels that are delivering RTTI information, so you may need to see if your 88.9 or 100.7 appear in that list if you're from the Toronto Area.

Ya, I can't find any way to take the RTTI feed off of 'Auto' in the Nav unit. Mini USA swears that even though Total Traffic provides the info in the states, somehow in Canada it's different -- and my MINI, since it's U.S. spec "will not decode" that information. It comes from the same company, in the same way -- I simply don't get it. He did not seem to know that TTN offers coverage in Canada or Mexico though. He just seemed irritated by my questions.

And yes, the traffic info for Toronto is only during certain hours, like it is in several other markets I've seen.

I'm using the stock Mini Nav unit for an '09 Clubman. It does get these signals, and uses them throughout the U.S. seamlessly. Works great, until you cross the border in to Canada. Where TTN provides the same info for major cities...

As radio frequencies and spacing are the same thruout North America, (US, Mexico, Canada) then there is no reason that the data should be in a different format, but that i s not to say it could be different.

According to the TNN Wesite FAQ if you have a subscription to their service anywhere in the USA or Canada you should receive the signal for any city you travel in Canada or the USA.

Question is in the bottom left corner.

http://totaltraffic.com/Faq/Faq1.aspx

I have sent them an e-mail asking the a question about the data stream type and is it different in the USA and Canada.

I will post back if/when i get an answer

Thanks everyone!

I know about the subscription supposedly covering all of North America. That's what makes all this so confusing. I contacted TTN and they forwarded my question on to their contacts at MINI. Very surprised when a response about a question sent to TTN was responded to by Mini USA.

Does anyone know a way to put in a specfiic station to point the RTTI software too? All mine says is *AUTO* under Traffic Information, with nowhere to click in to to change it away from that.

So, I took a pic of the Traffic setting screen, and on mine I see that I can select AUTO or 6 other LOCAL stations that broadcast RTTI.

What was interesting was, as soon as I started the Mini, I quickly went to the traffic settings screen, and it was all blank, as though it was searching the FM airwaves for channels that broadcast RTTI, then it fianlly populated the list.
