MINI is upgrading the HiFi system!

MotoringFile posted the press release for the 50th anniversary Mayfair/Camden editions, and it included this:
http://www.motoringfile.com/2009/05/...mini-50-camden
Highly exclusive but featured as standard: HiFi system and Mission Control. In addition to the particularly wide range of standard features on the two anniversary models, the MINI 50 Camden also features a top-end audio system. This new HiFi system from car audio specialist Harman Kardon sets standards for enjoying music in a MINI. The high-performance digital amplifier, for example, just like the loudspeaker units, is perfectly tailored to the MINI.
I posted a comment asking whether it is different from the current HiFi, and Gabe replied:
Wow we’ve been holding our tongues on this one for awhile. Yes this is a new system meant to address some of the poor reviews the original HiFi system had.
No information about when it will go into production across the MINI range. The "Mission Control" thing mentioned is also an interesting development.

Yeah but the $1,000,000 question is: Does it come with a temperature gauge?

Sounds interesting. Wish it could be retrofitted.

That's funny Robin. I refuse to pay $150 for something that should have been included. They already got me for $250 for an armrest. Next thing Mini is going to sell you the car and charge you if you want keys.

When I bought a 1966 Dodge van (new), the passenger seat was an extra, as was the right-side rear-view mirror.

The ScanGaugeII is kind of cool in that it will display a variety of OBC data, including boost (MAP), mpg, mph, rpm, coolant temp, engine load, voltage, ignition timing, etc. It will display four at a time. So, more than just a $150 temp gauge. Unfortunately, it doesn't have oil pressure or temp. They don't seem to be available in the OBC.

However, I do agree that a coolant temp gauge should have been standard in the MINI, especially the S.

That is welcome news. Too late for me though!!! Looks like I'll be doing the speaker upgrade. Funny thing about the options that should be standard. I would list them as follows:

1. Cruise Control
2. A decent sound system. The current sound system is below acceptable.

I had a 1993 Ford Festiva as a beater a while ago.

There was no passenger side mirror. It was an option.

Looks like the new HK option will be available in the 2010 models.

MotoringFile says it will be a premium system above the HiFi option and suggests that it is comparable to DPSM of the 1st gen, so I'm guessing the new system will be a $1000 option. DPSM was around $1200 (plus hours of dealer installation).

I would buy it. The HiFi is $500 and pretty minimal IMO. It sounds good, not great, and distorts with certain music/bass passages.

HIFI + aftermarket speakers = about $1,000.

I just hope it puts out 3 times the wattage of the today's HiFi...even after my speaker swap and Boss Bass 10" I still wish it was louder.

I'd wait to hear it before I got excited. The HiFi is really not worth the money (see my sig.) I'd like my 500 bucks back, please, MINI.
