USB "Cannot read device"

I loaded my songs (mp3s) onto a USB flash drive. I plugged it in this morning and got the following error message "Cannot read device" or something very close to that.

I didn't think I was a complete retard, but I could be wrong. Anybody know what I am doing wrong?

I read something about tagging. These are the same files I use for my iPod they have the Title, Artist, Album and Album art in iTunes.

I don't know what other information you require, please help me. I don't want to be stupid.

This morning I plugged in my thumb drive for the first time. I had to let it sit for a minute or 2 to actually index all the tracks. I was rocking about 2500 songs with about 4 tags each so 10,000 tags to index. Dont go over 20,000 tags. Once the activity light stopped flashing on my thumb drive it was good to go. If I tried to access the USB right away it said error on the screen and stopped indexing. Try giving it some time and make sure you arent going over the 20k tag limit.

Ok, I only have 1,268 songs and I think iTunes keeps the Album covers in a separate place, so that what..leaves me with 3,804 tags? (title, artist album). So I just need to give it time? I guess I was too impatient. Any idea how long? The drive I bought doesn't have a light on it. And thanks a bunch

something else i forgot to mention. Make sure your thumb drive is Fat 32 and dosent have any special software on it. If its not I would format it to Fat 32 and re-place your MP3's/Playlists on.

Another note:

It WILL NOT play most music from iTunes as the iTunes music until recently has DRM and the only way to palay that music is thru iTunes or your iPod.

Thanks a lot you guys. I accidentally left my drive at work so I will try this afternoon. The songs are not from iTunes, but I of course use iTunes to put my songs onto my iPod. However my iPod is so old that it doesn't interface well with my MINI. Hence why I am going this route.
