I need your help
I'm going to get a MCS very soon and was wondering if I should add the navigation system with my purchase. I read the thread down below about the nightmares with the blue tooth and iphone integration.
1. Are the iphone/blue tooth functionality still very much issues?
2. How is voice command?
3. Is the nav system even a good? Does it do anything other than nav?
4. Does the nav integrate with Sirius?
My dealer didn't have any cars on the lot with the system to show me...
I like the classic big speedometer look and can use google maps before I go anywhere new. So is it worth the money?????

It works pretty good, could be better but is very good overall once you know its quirks.
Yes, it integrates with the whole electronic system. If you have PDC it displays a graphical version in addition to the tones indicating distance. You can view and change vehicle settings on the NAV instead of the using the display on the tachometer.
Yes it does. You can view multiline displays from Sirius with the NAV. It will display artist and title track.
Is the NAV worth it?? If you think of it as just a NAV unit, no. But if you consider how it integrates with all of the other systems allowing better control of adjusting settings, PDC with it is pretty darn cool
Ive been in your shoes...
Get the NAV... Being a new mini owner for about two months now I am completely happy with this very hard decision. I had scoured these forums for months debating and weighing the pros and cons about functionality vs price so I definitely feel your pain. The NAV completed my car in ascetics and functionality. I hated the idea of scrolling through a little LCD for mp3 tracks and I wasn't too keen on the big piece of plastic with a grey *** in the middle of the console. As far as iphone/ipod integration I feel the user interface was an after-thought (I really didn't like the CD1, for "playlists" CD2 for "artists" ect...) but it works fine once you get used to it. The big LCD looks great and is easy to read, and the NAV system is great as far as directions, finding alternate routes, and a whole list of goodies once you get your hands on one. The 2k price tag was hard to swallow but in hindsight it is now a no-brainer. I opted out for the blue tooth so I cant comment on that one but my ipod and iphone hook up seamlessly to the ipod adapter. Ill put it this way, if you decide to get one there will be a few things that will really annoy you (255 artist limit on your ipod/ pokey load times) but the pros far outweigh the cons. Get it. I think i saw a post on here somewhere that said "it makes your car go from Disney world to Star-trek" and I totally agree. It looks really really good... Oh yeah and it works pretty well to!
I have the NAV and like it very much. If you drive in a major city it will guide you around traffic jams. It has guided me around jams in Silicon Valley and Los Angeles.
The NAV integrates with the audio and bluetooth. So, you can make cel phone calls or select what to listen to on the NAV screen. The Park Distance Control graphic is pretty cool.

YES, get it. I would NOT own this car, with out the built in NAV, period. The integration of the software setting, MP3's, Backup detectin system, and then throw in that it is a Navigation system, makes it a MUST have in my opinion. I can not see setting the software with the blinker stalk....
I know this is a 2 year old dead thread, please forgive me for bringing it back up
I didnt want to open a new thread for this but my question is - with the iphone for example, can you have music playing from the iphone over the system, AND make/receive phone calls? How's that work exactl? Just ordered a mccs yesterday with nav, just wasn't 100% sure how this featured worked.
Thanks :D

your question, i believe, is really more of an iPhone one than a NAV one. The system already interrupts music when a call comes in and the starts it back up when the call is ended. The iPhone, by default, works the same way.
Without NAV, the iPod integration on a MINI is hard to use as the screen is too small to easily navigate the menus. My wife always wants NAV for directions so we wanted it anyways, but the iPod integration was key to me as I don't own CD's anymore.

You hear the other party through the audio system. You can adjust the volume on the steering wheel as the other person speaks. Volume settings for music, phone, and navigation instructions are all separate. You have to hit the volume button while it is playing to adjust it.
WOW I am glad to see a lot more people saying YES then there use to be.
I love mine I have always called it a technology package since it does so much more than just navigation.
It is well worth the purchase and I would definitely recommend it!
