Navigation & Audio Anyone Have Pics Of An In-Dash Flip Out Screen?
#1
I did use the search function, but did not really come up with anything.
OK here is the background.....
I am finally able to retire my 95 M3 from daily driver duty and make it a dedicated auto-x car. The car that I intend to make my new daily driver is a MCS. I currently have the Alpine PowerNAV DVD based navigation system installed in the M3 using the Alpine CVA-1005 flip out screen head unit. I want to transplant this system to the Mini.
I know the stock radio in the the Mini is a standard din size but I was wondering how the flip out screen fit and what it looks like in the car. Specifically, will the screen come out all the way, etc.

I have the Eclipse unit and it is adjustabele as far as teh tilt back goes so you can set it to fit perfectly. Additionally if can rotate left or rite a few degrees for optimal viewing. From this angle it looks as if the nav system controls are unusable but you can stil lreach them without lowering he screen. the only real negative is the gas gage is not visable. There are a bunch of pics on my site of the audio install and gear that might help as well, RandyPage Title maxmini audio page

Great pics!
I'm thinking of having a custom switch put in to alternate the GPS screen into a DVD screen with a switch. Can the DVD head units out there play a DVD without their own LCD being out and up?
Can I get a slot loading DVD player anyplace?
Thanks,
Kurt
PS: I know people will say you can't do this, but I know an installer who will. I haven't talked to him about head units yet so I'm asking here first.

I'm not sure i understand why you've got both systems? If you've got the factory NAV, why a second one?

I looked at Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood and Sony and a few off brands as well. The eclipse had the fewest beels and whistles , would be very expensive to add a TV module to but the picture quality was far and away the best. They also offer a two year warrenty while all the others are a year or less which tells me a lot about their build quality. After seeing the various screens the choice was clear to me . Good luck,RandyPage Title maxmini home site

The picture quality of the Eclipse is much better than the converted Nav system screens. Additionally the head unit does a wonderfull job controlling and tuning the rest of the audio system , amp, speakers and MP3 player.Best of all it dissapears into the dash when i don't want it to be seen.Randy

on the flip out screens... I would like to keep the stock radio deck and add a screen somewhere in the car... I was thinking under the "switches" however Im not sure there is enough room. The idea is to keep the car looking standard from the outsiders looking in, but have the cool kids toys. Any other ideas of mounting a screen.... I have thought about a sun visor screen set up, but....... I think that impare my driving. Any ideas would be great. Thank you.
