What phone works with 2009 Clubman Bluetooth?
Before you answer..PLEASE:
Don't send me to the site of
MINI tested and approved phones.
I've seen it.
Don't write any technical crap
about software versions.
I've read it.
Some phones pair just fine,
and keep a good connection
and conversation.
Do any of them download the phone book
into the Clubman?
I've bought 2 MINI "tested and approved" phones,
both pair, but neither downloads the phone book.
Is there a defect in the Clubman Blue tooth in
general? My service advisor has no good answer. (he bought the iphone
and it doesnt download the phone book in his MINI.)
I never met anyone who could download the phone book.
Please tell me what phones really work..and preferably
non-Internet phones(I don't use it on my phone).
Just the simple phone.. just the Brand and model number.
Thank you.
but do any of them download

Good list of phones and results, look towards the end to find the link to the spreadsheet. Good luck.

My Blackberry Curve downloads the entire phone book. Works great. Also paired it with an iPhone.
I think there is something wrong with your system.
Now before you reply...PLEASE:
Don't disagree, I don't have time.
Don't send me a list of posts telling me I am wrong
I've seen those.
Don't even read this really, unless you want to make me angry.
Many thanks.

Unfortunately, this stuff isn't always as easy as we'd like. The simple truth is that you might have to deal with some technical stuff to get everything working. You can stamp as many angry faces in your message as you want, but nobody here's being paid to answer questions about Bluetooth. We're all here because we like Minis; we're on your side man!
All other things aside, I've kept a list of reports (official and otherwise) at the spreadsheet linked in my signature. There's a pretty large number of phones that work and transfer the address book.
When you say that you want the phone to transfer the address book: if you mean that you want to be able to dial a name by voice without setting up a voice tag, you'll need to have the factory Nav system for it to work this way.
If all you want is for the list of phone numbers to show up in the radio display, any of the phones in the spreadsheet with a 'Yes' in the Syncs Address Book column should work.
If you just want a simple, non-internet phone that works, the Motorola RAZR series is almost a sure thing and was available for most carriers. The RAZR V3 is probably your best bet if you can find one.

Do the motorolla tracphones work? I am very old school and rarely use the cell except to keep track of my spouse in big stores or when we separate and have to find each other. I keep it in the car in case of an emergency or a flat.
Hey Rodrick,
Great to see you here again!
I've paired 2 blackberries (an 8320 and now and 8900) Both transmitted the phonebook and work nicely with the car's bluetoooth. I believe my wife's motorola razr sent her phone book over too. (both with T-mobile)
Take care,

Verizon Samsung Sway
I have a Verizon Samsung Sway, and although the Bluetooth works great, the phone book will not pair with my vehicle. The only other beef I have with the Bluetooth is the microphone is on the passenger side. As a result the person on the other end of my phone calls asks if I'm making a call from a cave. I will have to use the DIY to move the mic to the driver's side sometime soon.
Here is the approved bluetooth phones from MINI website.

Hi I have a question? I have the sway from verizon also. I don't know how to connect the bluetooth to my mini (which is also a silver clubman 2009). So far your comment is the closest thing i have found to help me. Could you please advise me on what to do? I had the phone search for a new device and it didn't locate one. Do i have to press something in the car? The manual was no help.
Thank you in advance

The car will need to be in pairing mode for the phone to be able to find it when searching for a new device. Once the car is in pairing mode, the phone should be able to detect it when you do the new device search.
If you have a Nav system, the option for putting the car in pairing mode is in the settings menu- I've never driven a non-nav with Bluetooth support before, but that should be listed in the manual somewhere...
Once they've connected to each other, they will each ask for PIN number- just pick any random four digit number and enter the same one in both.
That should be pretty much it!

You: No!
Sorry, couldn't resist. Your phone needs to be in pairing mode. On your Sway go to:
1) Settings and Tools
2) Bluetooth Menu
3) Options
4) Discovery Mode
5) On
This should do the trick. Only crappy thing about my sway is I have been unsuccessful transferring the phone book. Everything else works great.
Motorola V750 from Verizon works great. Transferred phone book to MINI fine, but MINI reads it in a little different order-last name first or something like that.
MINI needs to be in pairing mode and phone needs to be in discoverable mode.
Voice dialing needs to be loaded seperately into MINI, not connected to phonebook transfer.
Hope this helps.

Mic not working
Hey folks,
We just picked up a 2010 JCW last night. My wife's Nokia phone (almost 18 mos old) paired up great at the dealer, phone book dialing etc....but noone can here her when she calls. It is as if there is no mic.
Any ideas as to why no sound on the other end when we dial out or when someone calls into her while she is in the car?
Im open to any Idea, and will be calling hte dealership Monday morning
Thanks

There is a thread in the NAV/audio forum about how to move it to the driver's side.

However, if you get absolutely no sound, that might not be the problem. Usually, others can hear you, but faint and not clear.
All that said, phone conversations in a car are a really bad idea. Numerous studies have shown that they impair driving almost to the extent of being drunk. Hands free doesn't help. Live longer, don't phone while driving.
If your LG EnV2 works, don't update the firmware without checking if the update works first- firmware versions ending in v05 and v07 have broken the address book sync functionality.
