Help with XM/SIRIUS

Hello All
I am new to NAM and Minis. I just got a Chili Red 2009 Cooper hard top. I did some looking around and searching but did not find the answer I was looking for.
I am looking to put XM/Sirius into the Mini. I know I can buy it from Mini USA, The questions is; is there an after market XM/Sirius module that can be controlled by the stock radio? The sales person told me the radio was maid by Alpine. Any help would be nice.

No aftermarket unit exists that can be controlled by the Mini Radio. If not using the mini unit, the best you can do is have a portable unit that plugs into the aux port. You won't be able to control it (other than volume) through the radio, you'll have to set and change stations through the portable unit. You also won't be able to utilize the radio display, just the portable unit.

Ok, that's what I thought.

Thank you,

Using a 3rd party, after market, XM/Sirius receiver isn't that bad.....and depending on which unit you choose, it has the advantage of being able to be used elsewhere as well. Plus it's a heck of a lot cheaper than the factory unit. The downside, in addition to what glangford pointed out above, is that you have the mounting problem. I use the Sirius Stiletto2 with a ProClip mount, hooked into the OEM antenna, hardwired for power, and plugged into the AUX input, which works fine. The mobile mount for the Stiletto2 allows easy removal of the receiver while leaving all the antenna and power connections in place. Many feel that 3rd party satellite receivers have the same theft-inviting problems as NAV units....and I do remove mine depending on the circumstances I'm satisifed with my setup, but in the future will probably opt for a factory receiver, primarily to avoid the "add-on" appearance.

I have the Xpress RC with a Kuda mount and I'm using the OEM antenna. Works great, looks great, and it has a lot more features than OEM Sirius. Of course had I known that Sirius was going to kill most of the XM stations, I would have probably bought the OEM Sirius module.

Ya, my other cars have the add-on receiver. It's ok but I was trying to keep the coop looking stock on the inside. I think I will save up a bit and have the dealer install is.

Thanks for the replies.
