Shuffle setting For iPods - help!
Just purchased an 09 MCs. I want to put the shuffle setting on while I listen to my connected Ipod through the cable they provided connected to the bottom right half of the center console. I would try selecting shuffle songs, then plug in my ipod and try to change the songs after that with the steering wheel song skipper, or even with the other controls that change the songs, but for some reason they end up going into a playlist, or going in alphabetical order of the songs. Is it possible to play my ipod on shuffle settings in this modern vehicle? I was able to do it in my parents 08 Scion with the same cable and similar system.
I JUST WANT SHUFFLE!
rofl. Thanks guys.

However the RND option doesn't stick, you have to turn it on every time you start the MINI. I've taken to randomising the playlists in iTunes before I sync the iPod, so I don't need the RND button.
The button on the steering wheel will select the next song in order, regardless of whether you have the RND button on or not.
It kind of sucks, any other device I've ever used when you have it on random, when you hit the next button it picks the next random song, not the next logical one.

Might want to check that...
EDIT: '09 justamini with the base stereo system, MOST ipod kit.

That's what I have to do as well to get it to go to the next random song.
I had this problem at first too (with the Y cable). First, we created a playlist on the ipod of all the songs and then in the MINI selected the playlist called "everything" then hit the "RND" button and it played in random order.
Then we figured it out without using the playlist...
If you put your ipod on shuffle songs BEFORE you plug it in the Y cable, and then select the "RND" button in the MINI it should play in random order. If it comes to song you want to hear the whole album for, just deselet the "RND" function. You can then re-select "RND" once you are ready for the shuffle function again.
Whenever the MINI gets stuck in a playlist/artist/genre etc, I always unplug the ipod and then make sure the ipod is on random song shuffle before plugging back in. And the steering wheel next button does select the next random song.
Of course, this is all meaningless for me now b/c my ipod was stolen!!! ergghhh.

on my '08 MCCS I sometimes need to switch the RND "on" then "off" then back "on" again to get the desired Shuffle effect. I usually wait about a minute between switching between the modes. Usually works as advertised though. I use the Y-cable.
BUMP
I have an O8 MCS and I have an Ipod Touch connected via the Y cable. When I hit RND and hit the next button, the next song played is a randomly selected song. Great!
However the RND button does not stay on when I start the car again. Is there a way for the RND button to be on all the time. As the OP stated, I just want Shuffle!
Thanks again

I have an 08 Clubman and an iPod Shuffle. I use the cable that came with the Shuffle, i.e., phone-jack to standard USB. I plug it into the in-dash USB port and all the information about the music shows up on the mini-dash. My issue is that no matter what I do, it always plays random. This is independent of settings on the iPod or setting the RND button on the iPod. Even this would be okay, except for the fact that of over 100 songs on the iPod, it plays a repeat pattern of about 25 songs and pushing buttons just cycles it through those 25 random songs. I know that they are random, because I know the order they were placed on the iPod. I also know that you cannot get it out of the loop. I don't know if this is a Shuffle issue or a Mini issue.
Any thoughts?

I am using a USB thumb drive, and always have the RND selection on. I am finding that while the MINI isn't playing the songs in alphabetical order, it's always playing the songs in a certain order.
For example, if I listen to song A, song D, and song X one day, and then come back to the car the next day, the MINI will start playing where I left off with song X. If I hit the back button, it will play song D, and back again and it will play song A.
So, I think the MINI loads the playlists, randomizes them once, and then keeps them in that order.
Ahh, well. I am still stoked that it reads my thumb drives. So much nicer than plugging in my iPhone all the time.

Try this... seems to work for me. I use mediamonkey for managing songs on my thumb drive and my iPod. I had to stop using it for my iPhone because the jerks at Apple basically broke the functionality of mediamonkey with the 3.0 update.
In mediamonkey, sync your playlist to your iPod. This will copy over not only the music, but the playlist as well. Then, connect the iPod to your MINI, and load the playlist rather than using the directory listing.
Tis how I do it with my thumb drive and it works great!
ps
I picked up a new 4gig thumb drive for $15 bucks at the PX, really can't go wrong there!

I have an 09 MCS with the y cable iPod interface. Until about 2 weeks ago the RDN setting would stick. I would turn it on and it would always be on. Now I turn it on and if I shut the car off for 5 minutes (fill up time) the RDN sticks. If it is shut off for a longer the RDN setting is no longer checked. It is driving me nuts. I have done nothing new. The iTouch I use for music in the car never comes out of the car and stays plugged in.
Wish I could figure out what is different now.
