Finding the Nav version on a MINI

Hi All,

Can someone tell me how to find the NAV computer version installed on the Mini?

I believe there is a hidden menu or something but I am unsure as to how to find it

Cheers!

Home screen
Press and hold joystick for 15 seconds then release
Turn joystick right 3 clicks, left 3 clicks, right 1 click, left 1 click, right 1 click
Press and release joystick

That takes you to the diagnostic screen and you can find many software versions in there.

You could also try pushing the passenger seat full forward, lift the floor mat, pull back slot cover, and press EJECT. The CD for the Navteq system will slide out.

1. The Nav disk will only tell you the version of the nav disk - aka maps & POIs, not the software version of the Nav system.
2. The disk for the Gen 2 MINI is in the center stack, not under the passenger seat like on the Gen 1.

EDIT /Thanks, I will give this a go this morning. I presume I do this from the main page.....?/

Ignore that, you do it when on the main page, but hovering over the setup on the list......

Now, that gave me LOT's of information. The next question is can anyone tell me which section and line item is the version of the NAV computer? I was kind of expecting to see something like they mention on the X5World forums etc.

Thanks for your help!

nickwhit,

Could I ask you for a clarification? I tried highlighting Setup in the main Nav menu and when I press the joystick down for 15 seconds, it just selects the setup menu. Then going right and left just moves me around the settings menu. What am I missing? Thanks.

Go into the setup screen, then start the "hold" bit..... Dont look at the screen, and do it smoothly. It does work, though it as told me nothing so far that is helpful

Thanks nickwhit!

I had to go into the Setup menu and make sure that "Info Sources" was selected, then go back out to the home menu, hover over Setup and then start the procedure with the joystick. I had Settings selected under Setup and it wasn't working for me at first.

I see what you mean about the not-too-helpful information. On the other hand, I learned that my MCS was built on 2008-02-23 (or at least parts of it were), which is something I didn't know before.

Thanks again!

Almost all of the discussion on X5World is concerning the older "High" Nav system which is in 1st gen MINI and older BMWs. It is the system where the firmware can be user upgraded through a CD, and various mods and tweaks are known such as changing language voice and customizing the splash screen.

The R56/R55 (and BMW from around 2006) use the newer and completely different "Professional" Nav. I haven't seen anyone figure out how to do anything to its firmware. It seems that the firmware can be updated only through the dealer's computer. The only tweak I know of is modifying the Points of Interest database on the NavTeq map DVD (does not involve the firmware). BTW, it seems that future generations of BMW Nav will do away with the DVD, so that even map updates have to be done by the dealer through a download.

Even Navteq is confused by the Professional and High versions. They don't have a separate entry in their online store for the 07 hatchback and convertible. So if you have a hatchback and want an upgrade, make sure you pick a newer year to get the correct Professional version DVD.
