Navigation & Audio Comfort Bluetooth/iPod and Nav questions
Comfort Bluetooth/iPod and Nav questions
We just purchased an '08 with the Convenience package and Nav. Hopefully someone out there can help me with 2 questions:
The information out here is great. Thanks in advance for all your help!
- What should be included with this for the Bluetooth and iPod as opposed to what isn't?
- Suppose I want to litter my screen with lots of icons. How can I get multiple icons (gas stations, restuarants, etc) to show at one time?
The information out here is great. Thanks in advance for all your help!
Now to figure out what I bought and what I got. To help clarify ... I'm really wondering if I was supposed to get some sort of cradle in the armrest. There appears to be "something" for a hookup, but I can't tell what it is. Also, is there anything special with the iPod?
Just can't figure out the difference between the regular Bluetooth/iPod option and the Comfort package.
The armrest cradles are extra. They are for charging a cell phone and connecting it to the roof antenna.
I don't know about those packages as the 07s didn't have USB and the only ipod option was the secret compartment cable hook up.

You should get a Y cable that connects to the Dock Port on the iPhone and connects to the USB and AUX ports on the MINI. They are in the cubby in front of the stick shift.
The USB port will display the iPhone's music playlists on the NAV screen. You select a playlist through the NAV joystick and it will display the track names of the songs, if properly set up in iTunes. Playlists may need to be limited so as not to exceed the number of items that can be displayed on the screen. I think the max number is 255, but I'm not sure. Best to make multiple playlists that are fairly short.
The AUX port gets the audio.
Buttons on the Multi-function Steering Wheel (MFSW) can be used to control volume, and skip to next or previous tracks.

Thanks for your help. I do have one last question. The Configurator only shows '09 now & not the '08. I'm trying to find out if I have everything I'm supposed to have with my '08. (Sorry if you are answering me & I'm just not getting it.)
It shows $500.00 for "Bluetooth and USB/iPod Adapter" with this information - "Keep your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel with this Bluetooth hands-free system that lets you control your phone or mp3 device via the stereo controls. iPod/iPhone cable included..."
If shows $750.00 for "Comfort Bluetooth with USB/iPod Adapt." with this information -"Hands-free phone system with strengthended antenna signal and power charger in the center armrest cradle. Adapter in center console lets you control your iPod or mp3 player from the required multi-function steering wheel ..."
I received the special cord for the iPod - works great & pulls up my playlist just fine. But nothing to charge my phone in the center armrest. I see some sort of mechanism in the armrest, but not sure how I would hook it up to anything. Did I miss getting a peice of equipment? Basically - what was included in the extra $250.00?

USB port and AUX IN inthe center console and MFSW (Mutli Function Stering Wheel), Possibly Crusie Control (although not part of the package you have to have the MFSW to have cruise)
EDIT: Not all cellphone have a cradle available, if it is a phone that BMW/Mini has found does not work with the bluetooth in the car to a specified extent then they do not produce a cradle.

Here goes the explination.
This would give you a connection in the secrect compartment for you iPod to hook to. There would NOT be a USB prot at the bottom of the center console just in front of the shifter. You would also have Bluetooth capability with your phone. You see NO components for Bluetooth but it is avaliable. It is Radio Freq. connection between your phone and the car.

The Bluetooth/iPod option is the Y cable and the USB port in the dash cubby along with Bluetooth.

@ Wildfamily - It's sad to see PeopleEater go, but glad to hear that you like the new one.
Also, if you'd like to load up the Nav with icons, around here all you have to search for is coffee houses.

I try and keep an eye out for all the reports and haven't seen anyone mention the Rugby yet. The first link in my sig goes to a Google spreadsheet with a current list of all the Bluetooth reports I can find. Unfortunately, the Samsung phones have a history of being hit or miss with the second gen MINIs.
The second link in my sig goes to a thread here on NAM for discussing Bluetooth compatibility, maybe asking there you'll get a better chance of finding someone that's also tried the Rugby?

Then there is also a $750 Comfort Bluetooth/iPod Integration that adds Bluetooth and iPod integration with a USB in the center console.
Then there is also in section 6 a $330 iPod adapter.
Bluetooth and Ipod can also be done thru either the conv. or conv plus packages.
but the Comfort Bluetooth/iPod is with the "Y-Cable"
Now the Cav package has the Bluetooth/iPod and the Conv. Plus has the COmfort Bluetooth/iPod/USB
You too! There's also a list of troubleshooting tips I've listed in the spreadsheet under the 'additional information' tab. It's kind of half-completed right now, but it may help.
The bit about third party software probably doesn't apply to your phone, and I don't know about firmware updates for it either. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me, or post over in the Bluetooth thread.
