Navigation & Audio iPod adapter - Comfort Bluetooth
No - assuming you are either given or purchase the required "Y" cable, your setup is a better method for using/controlling an iPod than the interface setup that has a connection in the secret compartment.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
It is a cable that you use too hook up your iPod to the car. It allows you to run the iPod through the car radio system. Mine came with the car and it works great.
Merbel - as ArnGar wrote, the Y Cable is the iPod connector. It is termed a "Y" cable because it has three ends:
1) a USB connector
2) a minijack audio connector
3) an iPod dock connector
#1 & #2 plug into the car (commands thru USB, audio thru minijack), and #3 plugs into the iPod.
Depending on the package and/or dealer (there seems to be some discrepancy over this), you may or may not get the cable for free. If you don't, it is about $100.

The an advantage that the iPod Integration (secret compartment connection) has over the USB/AUX connection is that, with the iPod in the secret compartment, it is hidden from view when you are parked. With the Y cable, you wires coming out of the cubby in front of the shift lever, and you have to find a place for the iPod.

convenience ipod and iphone
Hi all:
Thanks for the info in this section. One question: I want to use the convenience package with my ipod/iphone. I have questions about 2 scenarios:
a: if I plug the ipod in via the Y cable, am I still able to pair my iphone via bluetooth and accept phone calls that way. (I assume yes)
b. if I plug my iphone in via the Y cable and use its audio functions, am I still able to take calls via it's paired bluetooth connection?
Thanks.

I actually do exactly what is described in scenario B. I've never run into any problems.
If I do scenario B, will I only be able to control the iphone through the car? Or will the iphone interface still work?
I use the Y-cable with my iPhone 3G. When you connect it, a weird screen comes up telling me the iPhone is connected to an external device, but if i press the home button the music keeps playing but i can now do other stuff, for instance run google maps w/GPS

The only caveat is that you cannot use the "iPod" functionality of it, you'll get that weird screen and cannot browse albums/songs. I prefer to choose my songs via the iPhone interface as opposed to the horrid car stereo interface, so i just pull the iPhone out of its mount, find what i want to listen to, press play, and plug it back in. Works great!
