Connecting Amp to Battery

I have seen some pictures on installing wires to the battery from an amp. The only confusion i have is the grounding wire. I know the amp has a ground wire to the chassis/body. Is there a ground wire for anything else?

On the monster cable installation kit, it says there is a ground wire for the battery when you are hooking up your cable.

Sorry i am very new to this, and basically i need to know the full wiring instructions for amp to battery...vice versa.

positive wire runs from amp to fuse holder to battery

negative wire from amp runs straight to a chassis ground point within 3 feet of amp

You can also ground the amp directly to the negative side of the battery, which can actually be more convenient than using a body ground if you have an MCS and the amplifier is going to be installed in the back near the battery.

Also, put the fuse in the positive amp wire as close to the battery as you possibly can. The reason is, if any part of the amp wire between the battery and the fuse accidentally shorts to ground, the amp wire will burn up. So, keep that unfused length as short as you can.

Any tips on hooking the remote wire up? / not letting the amp drain my battery?

If the amp is going in the back of the car, the auxiliary power outlet in the boot is a convenient source of switched +12V power for the amp remote lead.

Okay so where would i exactly be connecting the remote wire... like what part of the 12 volt outlet in the boot?

Or should i just connect the remote wire to a fuse in the front passenger seat? (if that even works, in the infinity install sub/amp...if anyone read it, they did that).

The 12 volt outlet should have two wires leading to it. Use a meter or a test light to determine which one is at +12V with the ignition on - that will be the wire that you'll tap into for the amplifier remote lead. I don't know the wire colours off the top of my head, but one of the wires will probably be black or brown - that would be the ground wire for the boot outlet. You'll want to use the other wire.

WARNING -- CONTAINS POTENTIAL HERESY!

How much power does your sub amp draw? Really draw? What's the fuse rated at? Max current is going to be under what the fuse is rated at.

Look at some AWG wiring tables (google "AWG wiring") and that current level.

Hmmm... The usual tables suggest you should use 8 gauge if you need to supply 60 to 70 AMPS.

My one-piece Boss bass600 10 inch sub with cheezy amplifier has a 15 amp fuse, and draws less than 15 amps peak. Still, wiring it for the fuse, I could use 18 gauge wire. Nah, I'll use 16 or 14. But I'm sure not going to use 8!

And that aux power connector in the boot? That circuit is fused at 20 amps.

Cheers--

Well i am new to all of this, but i bought a monster amp install kit for a 500 watt systems and lower. Has an 80amp fuse.

My buddy has given me a 400 watt clarion amp to install. Thats all i know about it...so this is why i bought that monster kit.

Does this sound okay to install. Hooking the remote to the boot 12-volt...and what not?

or maybe.....a 90a breaker instead....

also look into the big three upgrade...make sure your power wires all match up gauge-wise....
