Ugly and Complicated Interface?

I'm not on NAM much, but I'm a 2nd MINI owner (03 and 06) both with Nav and soon to be an 09 Cabbie owner (with Nav). I played around with the Nav in a Clubman and that has to be the ugliest, most complicated thing in the world (Nav not the Clubman).

Anyone that has a car with the new Nav want to sound off on what you think? Complicated? Ugly interface? To me, MINI seems to have taken a step backwards in comparison to my current car when it comes to this.

When playing around with it I couldn't figure out if I could change the colors- anyone know? Upgrades to it as far as the voices- they seemed a little digitized as well. I'll really miss having my British Holly tell me to make a U-Turn, not caring if it's legal or not (unlike the US Holly who asks to make a legal U-Turn).

Just curious on impressions- either way I'll end up getting it and figuring it out.

I have to say the 03's navi is not half as nice as the current model...and takes only a day to figure everything out....

Say it ain't so!

BTW, I wanted to add that this is more about feedback on the current system and it's use -that's really what I want. There is another thread that's got alot of good info about built-in v. external and some cost justifications. I definately enjoy built-in - I'm just not all that crazy (so far) with MINI's design.

Yes, the NAV . . . well . . . kind of sucks.

Its deadly accurate and very sensitive; the hardware seems okay and the display is impervious to sunlight. The POI and navigating the menus is dangerous. Just plain dangerous. And Impossible without an address.

I have an 08 MCS with nav. The only other nav I have used is in my husbands Liberty. The Jeep has a bit smaller screen but I think it is more intuative, the map display is cleaner and it was easier to learn than the MINI's. But I am getting used to it and would order it again. I was disapointed that it does not have the british voice.

I like the built in nav on my 08 clubman if you have an address. In Birds eye view it would have been better if the street names would show up. The POI system is not straightforward and wish you could type in the name of the POI and let it search like other NAVs do as opposed to trying to ID the category it is supposed to be in. There is no way to change colors or voice that I could find. All in all I am glad I have the built in NAV but would like the software improved.
