Bluetooth, iPhone, and Voice Commands

So I got my iPhone paired with my Clubman, and it seems to work okay. I can access my phonebook by pressing the "A-Z" button and choosing a name. However if I press the voice button and say "Dial Name ......." it talks back, "The phonebook is empty"

What's the deal?

The MINI has its own book that you need to add voice commands to

Certain phones like the Razr will voice dial without building a phone book in the Mini itself. There may be others as well. The iphone isn't one of them though.

I have exactly the same problem that ahendy has and I'm afraid I'm too dense to understand the two responses that were posted. My 08 MCS is about 2 months old and I successfully voice dialed on one occaision, but since that time I too get the "The phonebook is empty" reply.
Is there a fix? Thanks for any help.

Steve

The iPhone will not simply dial from your phonebook. You will need to add each number to the voice dialing phonebook using the instructions in the manual so that the MINI recognizes the voice prompt. (I think that the command was "add name") It can be a bit tedious and you may not want to add all of your contacts.

Yup, that's the ticket! "Save Name", and follow the prompts, and then say "save" and that's it!

It's too bad it doesn't dial out of the iPhone phonebook, but it's not a big deal. It works well this way, it's just initially a pain to add voice names for your whole phonebook.

Thanks to all who replied. I did the "Save Name" command and entered the numbers etc. Everything works as advertised now. Now I just have to enter all the important numbers I normally use.
