Dual 2-channel or single 4-channel amp?

The HK is coming out and something new is going in.

I haven't settled on the specifics yet. I've got a mid level JVC head unit which has been on my garage for the last few months gathering dust while I get the rest of the system. I can't recall the model but it sounded decent in the store (without and with various amps) and I had good luck with my last JVC HU. For speakers, again I'll probably go with tried and true - Infinity Reference series. I was looking at the 6020CS components for the door and I'll probably do 6x9 Reference series for the rears.

But here's my dilemma...

I'd REALLY like to keep the amp hidden like the HK amp is/was. But is there a decent 4-channel amp that can power all four speakers that doesn't require good ventilation that also comes in a small enough package to fit in the boot compartment where the old HK amp sits?

It looks to be have enough room for something about 11" x 8" x 3".

Anything? Anyone? Bueller?

Alpine PDX series amps are what will work. There's one or two other solutions in the 4 channel format that'll work, but there's definately not many of them. I've seen another member on the board with a PDX in the cubby tho!

Nice. The PDX looks like it could be the one. A little pricier than I was hoping for but my car's a MINI utility car. I still need to be able to haul crap from Home Depot. An amp anywhere in the boot area would killed and I'd rather avoid having to go under the seat.

Yeh, they're awesome amps but they are a little on the pricier side. Price to pay for convienance and they are quality. I plan on going with one for my 4 channel and if the JL 500/1 I just traded for doesn't fit under my seat, i'll be getting one for my subs, too

Something else to keep in mind. Although the PDX amps are pricier (you can find a new 4.100, which is plenty of power for you application, it sounds, for about $380 if you look around), heat is a factor when you bury an amp in such a small and enclosed space. Since the PDX are purely digital, heat becomes much less of an issue, and thus they are ideally suited for your installation needs. From this perspective, I don't know if any other amp that can fit the bill.

Thanks the reinforcement, chilli.

Even better on the price. I found it for $329 at sonicelectronix.com. Since they're only 30 minutes from the office, what a better way to spend lunch than driving in the MINI to pick it up.

Would it fit in the cubby on the right side where the Harmon Kardon amp goes?Dimensions

Yeah, it should. xsprout said someone else supposedly did it. Based on my measurements you get about 11" x 8 1/2 inside the cubby.

Yep, even better in the end. I found the 4.100 for $265 at JP AutoSound in Santa Ana - they're on ebay as dynamicautosound. Just got it yesterday, so hopefully I'll get it in by the weekend. I'll post pics once I'm done.
