I wanted to know if there was a big diffrence between the standard 6 speakers and the Harman Kardon 8 spkr. Its a 550.00 upgrade on the mini, so I wanted to see if it was worth it or not. Thanks

In my opinion, it is worth the upgrade price as the speakers are a little better quality and provide a lot of bass...if you like that sort of thing. The mids and highs are decent for most folks I would assume. But if your into high end stereo systems in general, you may want to look into something else. Otherwise the HK system is sufficient.

Just my outlook...I have the HK system and added a couple of high quality amps and a JL audio stealthbox subwoofer as it suits my taste in sound.

Welcome to MCO.

I have the HK system in my MCS and am happy with its performance. The general consensus on MCO is that the HK is a good buy at $550.00.

I'm new here too, haven't gotten my MINI yet...I ordered the HK system, I hope it will provide me with the rich, full-bodied sound I crave...good bass response for most rock music, with clean, crisp highs for jazz and such....please tell me it does...lol

I play around with them every day at work and all I have to say is HUGE difference, it is the best "stock" system that I've heard. I'd say it's well worth the 550!

I didn't want to wait (10.02 delivery). I took the stock head. Depends on what xtras you want invest in. I initially was going to pass on the leather, but I got bumped up in line by taking a car someone passed on, with leather. Best move I made. So if you aren't looking at total dollars, get it all. If you are trying to hold a line, I'd say other doo dads come first (I have an MCS with Sport and Premium). The stock head is adequate for driving with sunroof open and windows down (sunroof maxes about at about 60 for me; after that, ambient noise is too disruptive), and decend sound. Bass depends on the music you prefer. It could be a little richer, but I don't notice the loss.

I had done various levels of upgrades to my audio system in my MCS and along the way I had a chance to go back to the stock audio system in a loaner MINI and back to the dealer to listen to the HK upgrade.

Right now I have a full audio upgrade going- sounds great but costs $2500. New Head unit Nakamichi CD-400, 4 channel amp Xtant 4.1, all four MB Quart speakers and JL stealthbox subwoofer.

The stock audio is good. For most people it would be fine. If you like it in the showroom go for it. If you are not really into music that much then don't upgrade to HK.

The HK upgrade for $550 is a bargain but do listen to it in the showroom and take a demo car with it out and play your music CDs and see how it sounds to you.
It is a bit boomy on the bass but it has controls that can be fine tuned to your tastes. The sound is much better than the stock audio system. You'd have to pay alot more than $550 to get near this quality of audio.

If you are used to $2000+ audio systems then just get the stock audio and upgrade as you like for your tastes. Save the money but do listen to the HK upgrade before you order your MINI and try to decide if it is good enough or maybe you could just add a sub and amp. There are lots of options depending on your budget.
