Aftermarket Navigation Speaker Integration
I started another thread on multiple aux inputs, but I actually think this is clearer.
I want to hear a Garmin's 2610's sound over the MINI's speakers. This would have to occur whether the car radio, cd, or aux input is being used. The Garmin comes with a cigarette lighter plug with a built in speaker, but this can get obtrusive near the cubby if something like an XM radio is there. I have seen a kit for the earlier MINI that plugs into the back of the radio, but I wonder if there's something that would work for the R56. I've found a plug for the Garmin that will provide an audio jack, but the fquestion is what to do next.
Thanks for any insights.

Good luck.
You would have to rewrite the internal software to override the radio and CD when a signal came through the AUX port.
This is one of the benefits of the built-in NAV, it will mute the audio from Radio, CD, or AUX for NAV instructions or phone calls. I don't think you can get that kind of integration with an external unit.

I was just low tech thinking of a y-cable to the aux input with XM in one and Garmin in other. I mostly listen to XM. I can hear the little speaker now. The Garmin volume can be turned up. The XM can be turned off if it's really tricky. The link I mentioned earlier is:

There are also device's motorcyclist use to blend multiple sound inputs into a signal sound for ear buds. They are usually designed so key things like radar detectors or nav instructions will override mp3 players. You can pick which things have priority.
This would help when using XM and a Garmin Nav into the Aux input, but it still wouldn't do anything if you weren't listening to the aux line (like a CD or FM).

You can't wear earplugs in both ears according to Ca law, but a deaf person is legal to ride a motorcycle so go figure. I wear ear plugs on mine for wind noise, even though I wear a full face helmet. It kills the wind noises very well and lets me hear things at a distance better. I use helmet mounted bike-to-bike communicators with my friends and also use it's audio input for music. It uses 2 speakers inside the helmet, which I can hear more clearly with ear plugs than without.
