Navigation & Audio Nav split screen question
Nav split screen question
I searched NAM and my owner's manual, but I can't figure out how to get the split screen on the NAV display that shows both the NAV map on one side and information such as current longitudinal location and current elevation. If I start guided directions and then cancel the directions, the split screen showing elevation replaces the directions, but as soon as I scroll to another screen (i.e. music or Bluetooth) and go back, the information is gone. Every once in a while, the split screen will be there upon startup.
Soooo, my question is: How does one turn this setting on and off?

The only time I've seen it come up is after reaching a destination. Like you, once I've turned off the engine or change the display screen it will no longer display the info. Granted I haven't played around much with it as I like how I have it set
. I'll take a quick look through the various settings later today to see if I can help.

It seems to me, I tried the different settings on the upper right side (i.e. the arrow, etc) with no joy. There are times I'd like to know my elevation and other times I would rather see the full map...but if only I knew how to turn it off an on without starting guidance.
Let me know if you have any luck Gary!

I did find a way to show the elevation and coordinates but not in a split window. There is a map option of "show current position" that will display the elevation and coordinates but it does not do the split screen unless you start guidance to a destination and cancel it.
Hi All,
Just hoping to get this question resurfaced and perhaps answered. I came across this split screen (map with current position information) for the first time (that I can distinctly remember, that is) and I really liked it, particularly for the big compass arrow pointing north. But once I pressed the joystick, it reverted back to just the map screen and nothing I tried could get that split screen back for me. There's nothing in the Owner's Manual that I can find. I know I can choose the Current Position screen and it'll display the compass, map coordinates and elevation but I really would like the split screen with the map. Anyone solved this mystery?

Hi All,
There is a post on the "What did you discover about the R56" thread (or words to that effect) that explains the process.
1. From the Home Menu, take the "Setup" option, go to "Language" and Un-Check the "Arrow Display"
2. Go into Navigation, choose a destination, and Start Guidance.
3. Go back to home, setup, language, and Check "Arrow Display".
4. Return to Navigation and the split screen should be there.
Once I accomplished all that, I see the split screen and arrow every time I start guidance. It goes away if I stop guidance or reach the destination.
On the map/arrow display, joystick to the right, select the arrow-pointing-to-a-dot icon, and press the joystick. The icon will show a slash mark over it, and the latitude/longitude/altitude appears instead of the arrow.
Good luck,
Keith

Keith, I just tried it and it works exactly as you described it.
But the system didn't display the compass arrow which is really what I hoping to see. Was I just imagining that I saw a split screen with the map on the left half and a compass arrow pointing north along with the longitude, latitude and elevation on the right half? I hope someone out there can confirm whether my mind is going or not.
Nav system
When you start guidance, there is an option for "Input Map". You can pan and zoom the map to anywhere the DVD covers, and click the stick to make that spot your destination. You can do that scan and zoom trick any time but it will not make a destination out of it unless you have guidance started and waiting for you to select a destination.
In the address book, there is an option to capture your present location and store it. Handy if you are at a motel in a strange city and might need help getting back to it later.

Starting and stopping guidance is the only way to get the split screen. The only time I've had an arrow on the split screen is when my destination is "not on digitized roads" as the voice put it. Even though the roads where one the map display and still had the blue highlight for my route on them. Then it went to a large arrow to guide me towards the destination.

As another poster said, the "Map Facing North" may be your only choice if the compass direction is important. I found it very dis-orienting trying to match the map with the actual roads around me.
EDIT: The "Current Position" option (not a split-screen) does show a north arrow along with lat/long/alt. And, the name of the road you are on. I was fixated on the map display since we started out talking about the split screen.

I checked again, went out and tried some things on the road, and there was no "North" arrow that I could find. There is an arrow in the bottom left corner of the map, pointing to your destination.

Ok Keith, you and Minidrivr have me convinced that my mind isn't what it used to be.
The good news is with Easter coming up, I can hide my own Easter eggs!
