Blackberry and Bluetooth

We got 07 MC about a month ago with a bluetooth factory set-up. Tried to pair my blackberry 8830. Both the blackberry and the MINI recgnize each other but then my blackberry gets frozen. I rebooted the 8830 by removing the battery but everytime it gets frozen. I have Verizon service.

Has anyone been successful with a 8830 blackberry? Do I need to update the software on MIN or blackberry? Any ideas?

I just got the blackberry 6 months ago and hate to get a new phone again.

Thank you all in advance for help

Unfortunately you're going to find the Mini's bluetooth function doesn't work universally with any bluetooth enabled phone. Actually it seems its very picky.

Hopefully some one here will have also tried an 8830.

There is this site, www.wireless4mini.com that lists compatible phones/software versions. Some people here have reported other phones not on that website working but not many.

Welcome to NAM, btw!

8830 success!

Hi...i know i am not gonna be much help....cause my 07 MCS and 08 MCS sync'd up with my 8830 just fine.....my phone is about 6-8 months as well....

i picked a passcode for the mini, and entered the same one on my phone....and it works beautifully......i do have AT&T but that really shouldn't make a difference....i also have the nav with bluetooth from the factory....

but it def does work....

sorry i can't give you more tech specs on how to solve the problem...

Hey Adam what software version is in your 8830? Maybe that makes a difference.

Thanks. I will try to find the software version. Not sure if it is because it is Verizon, because Verizon had blocked the Navigation on their 8830s. Whereas AT&T did not.

I was able to sync it with a 07 Lexus ES and it worked fine. So, I am not sure if it is just the Blackberry software or MC software as well.

I will called the dealer in Columbus area. They said they can try to update the MINI software. NOt sure if that will make any difference.

Thanks minidrivr and Adam,

Found something new on the MINI radio display. It tells to go to "www.mini.com/bluetooth" and even gives an ID number for the bluetooth device. However, I cannot even find that web address.

Has anyone experienced any difficulty with the MINI bluetooth system that was resolved with the software update?

Thanks everyone!!!

Is there a place in the phone to enter that ID number you are seeing on the Mini's display? Maybe it needs that to sync the first time..

yea there is a place to enter the id number...

at the same time i was at the menu on the car, ( i have nav screen) and went to the bluetooth option for the blackberry.....once i choose a pin number and entered it in the mini.....then a window popped up on my phone asking me to enter in that same 4 digit number....

one thing that is tricky is that if you have the **** key or caps lock key hit, its not gonna work...i believe its case sensitive...

I've found that you have to put the code into both as quickly as possible once the prompt comes up. In my exerience I get the prompt on the Mini first, put in my code very quickly - look down and my 8830 prompts, enter it, and then i'm golden. If I delay on the 8830 at all it will just sit there and look at me...

Try doing it a little more quickly to see if that makes a difference. My went very smooth the first time we link our phones to it when we got it, but Money-Penny recently went in for service and got a software update. We have to reprogram everything includinbg the BT links, and t took me about 30 mins....

Good luck!

Thank you everyone

Thanks to everyone who posted a reply to my question.

I was finally able to pair up and make phone calls. It even had the phone book transferred.

The BB8830 needed a software update. Apparently, some folks at Verizon knew that early versions of 8830 OS (mine was one of the first ones in July) had a bug and could not communicate with other bluetooth systems. Although, it took me a while to figure out that.

I also spoke with MINI and they are updating the MINI software on Monday anyways since it is old. Hope that will not cause any problems.

Thanks specially to minidrivr and adamacopp.

I have a new MCS with bluetooth (no nav) and a blackberry 8830. I have been able to pair them easily, but the 8830's phonebook did not transfer. Has anyone else had this problem? Am I doing something wrong?

It takes a little time for mine to transfer. I'm not sure how it logically performs it, but it seems if I make changes to contacts on my phone that it takes longer. That may just be my perception though. I also have about 600 contacts in the phone so that could definitely be the time delay I'm experiencing.

Although I've never had to do this, there is a way to manually transfer your address book from your 8830 to a bluetooth device: Go sit in your Mini and start the car so it makes the connection. On your 8830, go to Options/Bluetooth. Highlight the Mini connection from the list with your trackball and press to select. A small pop-up window will appear - select the command that says Transfer Address Book.

This should get it set-up for you. Good luck!

Thanks! I'll give that a try. Oddly, only one entry appeared on the car system and that was my office number. Like yours, my address book is quite large.

One thing of note - I'm not sure if it matters at all, but you mentioned just your office number showed up. Is your 8830 on BIS or BES? Mine is BIS, with no rules or limits on usage. Although I've never heard of it, if you are on BES maybe there is a sync rule. If you are on BES, talk to your IT department to see if there is a limit on it...

Another item regarding blackberry's and the Mini bluetooth is if you have "groups" in your address book (ie: email groups) that will prevent you from syncing with your Mini. I had to go in and delete any email groups from my BB. The Mini software can't deal with them.

I am an exec at a major financial institution, all of our systems are pretty much locked-down. When I went to manually transfer the address book, I found that the function was flagged "disabled" and that I did not have access to toggle the flag.
