Bluetooth issues and LG VX8700

I am having problems with the Bluetooth and seek advice. The phone I use is an LG model # VX8700. It is not on the list of the certified list that mini published although the LG VX8500 is. I also see the VX8700 on the 'unofficial' list published here. The phone and connectivity is flaky at best. It works sometimes, but often disconnects soon after connecting. The system often doesn’t pair, then does. But when it does work, it never loads or reads the phone book. When I look at some message board responses within I do see that some have the same phone as mine using the VX8700 yet can read the phone book, but has another problem that mine doesn’t. Mini simply told me, you have the wrong phone. But in other messages on the mini board, I see that many have phones that work fine, including reading the phone book, and these phones do not appear on the official list (which incidentally seem dated anyway). Also, I’ve seen instances when the dealer upgraded the Bluetooth software and then the system worked fine. In any event it seems many people out there have a lot of problems with the Bluetooth in the mini regardless of correct phone or not. My question to you is, can you suggest something I should do? I’m prepared to get another phone, but what if I spend that money and it still doesn’t work, and it ends up being a firmware, or software problem/upgrade in the minis’ Bluetooth system? I would have spent $100 plus for no reason. Is there a way to determine if the mini’s software/firmware is at the right level first before I buy a new phone?

My experience with my LG VX8700

I have a VX8700 and was very excited to be getting bluetooth support in my Clubman. I dutifully checked out the Bluetooth Compatibility thread and saw that the VX8700 was listed in the Good category but with some minor notes. I also thought I read in the thread (haven't gone back to verify this though) that someone suggested to upgrade the phones firmware to the latest version.

Prior to picking up my Clubman, I went into the local Verizon store and had them update my phones firmware hoping that this would be the magic bullet for full functionality. The version that I am running with on my phone is T87VZ02. The prior version was T87VZ01.

My phone will pair with the car without fail. The phonebook does not synch. I can setup a voice dial with the Clubman's bluetooth system, it will dial the number via the phone but I can't hear any of the audio. The bluetooth system does not provide any indication of an incoming call.

So, my VX8700 is basically useless with the bluetooth system in the Clubman. I also called Auto Wireless Systems who seem to be the experts with the BMW bluetooths systems and the nice lady there told me it wasn't going to work.

VX8700 compatability with Mini Bluetooth

Thanks for the reply. occasionally my phone has trouble pairing and occasionnaly disconnects just seconds after a call connects (happens too often to account for cell coverage). But when it does work, I can dial via voice command by telling the system the numeber to dial. that works fine. I also get in-coming calls, and that works. i can see a list of past phone numbers dialed and scroll through them using one of the radio buttons. I can easily dial the last numeber dialed with a push of one button. What it doesn't do and never has, is read the phone book on my phone. So, unless i put the name in manually via the bluetooth interface (which I haven't tried yet), I can't dial by name (by simply saying 'call Bob Areebob'). So to call someone who's number I haven't committed to memory, I must scroll through the cell phone, then hit the send button on the phone...which really blows frankly. That defeats the whole purpose of having bluetooth in the first place. My software version is T8VZ01, the version you upgraded from. it would appear, that the newer software level (T8VZ02) is LESS compatible with the mini's system, as you now seem to have less capability than I now have, and mine sucks as previously noted.

Here is what BMW/Mini and Verizon have to say about the LG VX8700.

Firmware T8VZ02 not compatible.

Firmware T8VZ01 FUlly compatible, Phone book transfer, send & receive calls, rings, and MFSW, should all work. Some people have reported though that it has taken a couple of days for some phone books to transfer.

See Sticky thread for more details.

Also see his document https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ight=bluetooth

It tells more of the story in an easier to read format for some phones.

LG VX8700

Schatzy;

thanks for the response. I've seen those documents. I have the right software level, T8VZ01, in my phone. Yet I still can't synch the phone book, or read the phone book, or dial by name from names in my phone. How do I know if I have the right software/firmware in my car? You said,

"Here is what BMW/Mini and Verizon have to say about the LG VX8700. Firmware FUlly compatible, Phone book transfer, send & receive calls, rings, and MFSW, should all work." Where or how did you reach Mini for validation? is there a phone# I can call? The only thing I see from Mini is that list of phones and the VX8700 is not on it. Although in the Verizon list BMW (not Mini) lists the phone.

You also said, "Some people have reported though that it has taken a couple of days for some phone books to transfer." This I don't understand. Do i need to keep my phone connected to the car for a few days? Is there a command I need to execute to actually do the synch? or should it just synch the phone book automatically when connected?

thanks for your help!
