iPod dock port to Aux cable w/charger ?

Ipod dock port to Aux cable w/ charger ?
Just wondering if such a cable exists ? obviously want to minimize cables, charge my ipod, & still use the aux input instead of one of those fm transmitters.

and to find it in black to match my piano black interior & black ipod wouldn't be too much to ask would it ? We're planning a long roadtrip down to LA & then to a Mini in Vegas 5 this spring

if you had gotten the bluetooth / USB you could just charge and play off that (the USB). Otherwise where would you plug it in? you'd need a dock-> cigarette lighter

OK - one with no arm + controls

But yeah, most things with arms will wear out and not hold it up forever. Esp. for the heavier iPods.

Yeah, I'm having a similar battle in my head and wallet. I just bought a new Ipod touch. It works fine through the Aux input, but you are at the mercy of shuffle play, etc. if you don't want to handle the unit. Not an easy task with a six speed on cuvacious roads.
Hitting the next button on the steering wheel would be nice, and I kinda like seeing the song name in the dash. I just need 4 numbers on the powerball!

I hate when you guys post better stuff while I'm typing! That last one looks good, but the button is till down by the Ipod.

that's perfect ... nice find

now how about one that lets you do all that & sit the ipod upright in the cupholder at the same time

The nuvi's MP3 playing capacity sucks... the sound comes out of its speakers which are not good for music.

i think im ultimately going to go with the ipod cable... that will be one of my last upgrades though.

All of the other solutions are nice but the sound quality will never be as clear as a full dock to deck connection.

This looks interesting. But after using a Monster product very similar (iPod dock & the stereo cable ran off it) the sound was not as good as just an iPod to aux cable. I wonder how this one sounds. I also like the control on the charger but doesn't help us too much in MINIs where you would have to select around the shifter and any drinks.
Right now I have my iPod sitting under the brake handle which allows me to skip forward pretty easily. If this cable sounded good and would still allow for iPod controls it might be a good replacement because I would at least have a charger.

I found a couple of customer reviews on the Apple site.

People are obsessed with charging the iPod IMO. Mine plays 20 hours nonstop on a charge. Don't know about you but I don't drive that far. So I use the $8 dock connector and either sit it in the tray under the brake, or in a Belkin Tunedock cupholder thing. For another $8 I can buy a carcharger. The things with the arms that plug in are ghastly to look at. Go minimalist like me!

I agree, but mine is long in the tooth and doesn't stay charged very long. 20 hrs, no way. Around 3-3.5 for me.

not sure which Nuvi model you're referring to, but the 360 (same as the one from Mini) has an audio/headphone out jack that you can patch into your aux input same as any other mp3 player. Costco's got them for $100 off right now, $249 sure beats the Mini dealer price $750, or $2000+$500 for the built in+ bluetooth package .... and you do not want to be locked into a rapidly advancing (out-dated) piece of consumer electronics.
Plus the 360's got built in bluetooth & thanks to one of the guys here, custom Mini icons

so that's why I'm not dropping $350 for a factory ipod adapter

thanks for all the cool cheaper ideas.

Charged time will depend on your iPod. The smaller ones with flash memory (nano's etc.) will stay charged alot longer than the ones with a hard disk. (30+ GB videos)

I decided to stick with the $4 mini-jack to mini-jack aux cable, it sounds decent, at least on par with the stock speakers and it works with all our various mp3 players, a couple shuffles, a 30gig ipod video, ..
and I ordered up a Garmin Nuvi 360, just couldn't resist that deal through Costco... and our Mini dealer has the hardwire kits for $175

+1 on the Griffin auto pilot. Combined with my ProClip, its a clean solution (sound and looks-wise).
